Where Are The Million New Manufacturing Jobs Obama Promised?
Investors Busniness Daily ^ | 10/02/2015 | Editorial

Factory Jobs: The anemic September jobs report was bad news for anyone hoping that the economy had turned a corner. But it was even worse news for manufacturing, which is on a two-month losing streak.

Manufacturing shed 9,000 jobs last month on top of the 18,000 lost in August, completely erasing the gains made so far this year. Since January 2013, the industry has gained only 338,000.

All this flies in the face of President Obama's repeated promise in 2012 that if reelected, he would create 1 million new manufacturing jobs by the end of his second term. Obama said that these new jobs would "put middle-class people back to work." To make it happen, he promised to aggressively pursue corporate tax reform and unfair trade practices by China, set up new community-college/employer partnerships and create up to 20 "manufacturing innovation institutes."

Since then, he's done little if any of it.

To hit Obama's goal now, the industry would have to create 44,000 new manufacturing jobs every month through next year — roughly four times the average monthly gain over the past three years.

The general economic sluggishness aside, it should be no surprise that manufacturing isn't booming.

A study by the National Association of Manufacturers found that regulations cost the industry nearly $20,000 per worker in 2012. At smaller firms, the cost is almost $35,000 per worker.

It's only getting worse, as new or impending regulations on CO2 emissions, smog, etc. threaten hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs.

Late last year, NAM president Jay Timmons told the Washington Times, "There's a feeling in this country right now that...

To quote a caller to the Chris Plante show some time back, “The only shovel-ready jobs the kenyan had were those burying the hundreds of dead Mexicans killed by Fast and Furious.”

If there was any real job growth,I guess it must have been in the federal government & those jobs produce only problems for legitimate businesses.

Happy Groundhog Day everyone!  Last Friday was a FOLLOW THRU DAY and so now we're officially in a confirmed rally.  We got a nice run going on now just as was prediced this AM by our all seeing futures traders, ISM Services came in at only 56.9 compared to an expected 58 and last month's 59.  Gold&silver edging up and are not at $1,136.30&$15.69.

We will get the “shovel ready jobs” Obama promised.

With Ayatollah Obama’s policies there will be plenty of people to bury. The race war alone is producing a lot of shovel work.

Obama meant Asia and Mexico would realize a million(s) new manufacturing jobs exported from the US under the TPP once passed. Maybe he just didn’t speak clearly.

That's what everyone's trying to tell us so we can continue w/ the old tired leftist business bashing and tax'n'spending.

Meanwhile they all call for no taxes for most, increased spending, and bashing business owners w/ even higher taxes.

--and what I'm hoping for is that President Trump with follow suit w/ Obama (and Clinton before him) and dump the anti trade rants right after he takes office.  Nobody knows for sure what Trump's going to do, but what he has done is praised Pelosi and obamacare and then changed his mind just like now he bashes China while opening hotels there.

Is America a great place or what?

It's not business bashing.

To a great degree businesses decisions today are based on government policy.

I don't blame a business for doing what it must to remain profitable, competitive and viable.

It is our foolish government officials who set the policies that drive business and jobs offshore.

Remember Ross Perot and his warnings about NAFTA?

Thank you for referencing that article expat_panama. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at Obama and not at you.

"All this flies in the face of President Obama's repeated promise in 2012 that if reelected, he would create 1 million new manufacturing jobs by the end of his second term."

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Regardless what FDR’s activist justices wanted everybody to believe about the fed’s Commerce Clause powers (1.8.3), a previous generation of state sovereignty-respecting justices had clarified that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate INTRAstate commerce.

”State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added].” —Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

So even if Obama knew what he was talking about concerning jobs, it remains that he exploited voters to get reelected by making a “promise” for jobs, low-information voters not understanding that the president has no constitutional authority to make such a promise.
