Sen. John McCain on Sunday blamed the airstrike that killed 22 people in an Afghan hospital run by the medical charity Doctors without Borders on the “fog of war” and the Obama administration’s withdraw of U.S. troops from the war zone.
“We call it fog of war, unfortunately. And it’s a tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them,” Mr. McCain, a former Navy fighter pilot in the Vietnam War who now chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” He said that the tragedy likely would have been avoided if U.S. troops were on the ground with someone radioing instructions to helicopter gunships that purportedly carried out the attack.
“If we had had a forward air controller, it very most likely would not have happened. And this is also a result of our withdrawal,” said Mr. McCain, Arizona Republican.

This loudmouth statement does not help them at all, and it seems so self-serving of him to say it.

Thats the reason. The idea that war can be surgical where only ‘bad’ people die is the problem. It makes war more acceptable instead of something to be avoided.
I imagine they dont get the irony of all the hand wringing over this one attack while they ignore thousands that ISIS is killing.
From what I read of this, the enemy was using the hospital as a sancuary to fire from.
We should have paid the North Vietnamese what they demanded to keep McCain forever.

This dumb moron doesn’t even care if anti-aircraft fire was coming from the so called hospital grounds. We have seen this situation before where the coward Islamists hide in places that they believe/hope we will not destroy. I suppose this may be yet another one of those insane ROEs where you are not allowed to return fire until you are hit by enemy fire. Monday Morning jerks throwing our fighters under the bus - again.
You’re forgetting that Obama wants to be out of Afghanistan before he leaves office and he would benefit by hitting a hospital run by doctors without borders.
If he can get the Afghan government to protest our presence then that will be the pretext for getting out. He’ll be looking for all sorts of ways to make us unwelcomed even by the people who have thus far supported us, so expect this year ahead to be very rocky.
Obama’s a saboteur, not a president. If he were just incompetent he wouldn’t be wrong every time.
This was scheduled, on purpose, to contrast with the Russian airstrikes. We were given bad Intel, or doctors without morals was set up. It paints Russia as competent and the US as incompetent and weak.
For a guy who is an American fighter ace (He totaled 5 American Aircraft) he has little room to talk about collateral damage. He is collateral damage.
The hospital was hit because it needed to be hit.
Is there ANYTHING that McCain doesn’t see as a reason for more war? Except for protecting US borders, that is.
Why, oh why, isn’t our brilliant Media blaming Obama for this??? He took credit for the Osama bin Laden strike.......why doesn’t he take responsibility for this hit? He, Himself, said ‘turns out I’m really good at killing people’. This from a ‘man’ who has probably never fired a gun in his life.
And McCain only speaks when he knows he will be quoted. Trying to stay relevant.....he has a re-election fight coming up. (Never mind that he said this would be his last term when he ran in 2010)

Typical of the media they got it wrong, McCain was a light attack A-4 driver, not a fighter pilot. Now he’s just a turd.
This incident has a familiar ring to it somewhat like when Bill Clinton “accidently” bombed his good buddies the Chinese in Kosovo.
