Two reputed gang members were arrested and appeared in court on drug charges over the weekend after Chicago Fire Department crews responded to 74 heroin overdose cases in 72 hours last week.
Chicago police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration were combing the West Side trying to find the source of the dangerous batch of drugs.
Alfonzo Sylvester, 24, was arrested Saturday and appeared in Leighton Criminal Court Building on Sunday on charges of possession of heroin with the intent to deliver and aggravated fleeing and eluding police, both felonies, prosecutors said.
Sylvester, wearing a denim jacket with red lettering that read "Rolling Bones," stood silent as Cook County Judge James Brown set his bond at $30,000.
Mario Wooford, 26, was arrested Friday on a possession with intent charge after he and Sylvester are alleged to have sold an undercover Chicago police officer $720 worth of heroin on the West Side, prosecutors said. On Saturday, Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil set Wooford's bail at $10,000 on the drug charge, taking into account that he has no history of violent crimes.
The men are members of the Unknown Vice Lords street gang, according to court records. They were arrested after Chicago recorded 74 overdose cases in 72 hours by Friday afternoon — more than double the number in the same three-day period last year.

And some guys on motorcycles in Tx , having dinner with their wives in a restaurant, are arrested and each held on a million dollar bail.

Not much outrage in the comments though. Just how bad and dangerous it is, unpredictable dosage, cheaper than painkillers, laced with fan something, powerful painkiller, heroin addiction is the worst, never completely kick it, dead man walking.
Death penalty is in order and I would flip the switch.

However, when someone threatened a judge there the bail was similar to that in Waco. One could surmise preserving the power of the judge's world is what is the most important issue when setting bail.
Really, I feel guilty for feeling this way, as we are supposed to see God in all of our fellow men, but I often think that these junkies should be left to their own devices.
Medical professionals are saving all these addicts just so they can use again while committing crimes to support their habit.
If drugs were legalized, dummy, people would know what they were getting, and there would probably be a lot fewer overdoses.
Regardless, they would be responsible for their own actions, just like the millions of alcohol users in this country, and the damage, death, and violent crime which they inflict, which dwarfs the negative effects of all other drugs combined.
Do you think all these OD's would be happening if the strength of the heroin were readily known? Prohibition creates such unpredictable black market conditions, just like it did when alcohol was illegal.
Prohibitionists must necessarily be tolerant of no-knock warrants, searches without probable cause, unregulated black markets, organized crime, and the like in order to wage their misguided and Tyrannical holy wars.
Prohibitionists use the same warped auhtoritarian reasoning which leftists indulge in when they foment their own pet self-righteous flavors of Totalitarian thought.
While nanny-state right wing and left wing authoritarians argue with each other over whose version of Tyranny is more palatable, I'll continue to favor actual Freedom, with all of its warts, challenges, and inconveniences.
I'll continue believing in individuals' responsibility for their own actions, rather than arbitrarily and preemptively imprisoning people for possessing the wrong plant, medicine, chemical, or liquid spirits.
And all the while, alcohol will remain, by leaps and bounds, the absolute worst drug on the face of the earth, and no amount of denial will ever change that. Education, not legislation.

That’s exactly what happened. Probably clueless amateurs who didn’t know they were supposed to cut the wholesale product to pieces before retailing it.
Which is motivated by the high price, which in turn is caused by its illegality.
