MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian air force is using KH-29L air-to-surface laser-guided missiles in Syria, the RIA news agency reported on Sunday, citing Colonel Igor Klimov, an air force spokesman.

The U.S. Air Force’s senior intelligence officer said Thursday that Russia lacked precision-guided weapons for its bombing campaign in Syria and would likely inflict substantial civilian casualties as a result.
Lt. Gen. Robert P. Otto, the Air Force’s deputy chief of staff for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, told reporters in Washington that it appeared the Russian forces were using “dumb bombs” instead of weapons guided by lasers or satellites.
If they can’t back up statements with verifiable facts then the military spokespersons should keep their mouths shut. Don’t follow the path of WH spokespersons and be known as verifiable fools.

As I understand there has not only been a request, but some Russkie general has shown up to survey the situation. Seems the truth should out quickly as it is only a hop, skip, and jump from Syria to Iraq by air.
Putin would love flying out of an Iraqi base used currently by the USAF - think of all the egg he would be putting on Zippy’s face!
