“I don’t know who you are, and you’re welcome to be here, freedom of this press. I am a devout, practicing Catholic, a mother of five children,” Pelosi said. “When my baby was born — my fifth child — my oldest child was 6 years old. I think I know more about this subject than you, with all due respect. And I do not intend to respond to your questions, which have no basis in what public policy is that we do here.”

I wasn’t criticizing I was just pointing out the difference between murder and killing.....some times the two words get mixed up too often and easily.

As for when life begins, it obviously begins when cells divide, or conception.

In my view, it shouldn’t take a law to define it, but for legal reasons, it does....and I understand that.

If when human life ends is public policy (capital punishment, health care, assisted suicide), then why isn't when human life begins also public policy?

Oh I get you. And I agree. It shouldn’t take a law to codify something so obvious. But if these people wanna play that game, murders should have their lawyers start using it as a defense. THEN we would get life’s beginning defined REAL FAST.

Because Pelosi turns to government (rather than, say, religion) as the source of her morality, then the profound moral question of when human life begins damn well must have "a basis in public policy".

Otherwise, "when human life begins", having no religious or public policy moral basis, is just a matter of personal opinion. Even a free society cannot operate in such a fashion.

Not sure I've ever posted Scripture in all my years on FR, but this popped into my head when I read the lead paragraph

Take Up Your Cross

25"For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

26 "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

27 "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.…

Her taking communion while in her egregious spiritual state may explain why she looks so rough lately.

In America, all our constitutional protections rest on the Founders' premise that all human beings are "endowed by their Creator" with rights to both life and the liberty to "pursue happiness." That is the sole reason those rights are deemed unalienable--because they are derived, not from another human being, not from a government, not even from the mother, but from God.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them." - Thomas Jefferson

That understanding underlies every other consideration embodied in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution. It is the very basis of our rights to life, liberty, and laws to protect them.

Since the 1970's, technological advances have enabled us to observe God's tiniest creations in the womb. We no longer have an excuse for imagining that these are blobs of tissue labeled "fetuses." They are living babies who will have life and liberty if we do not "destroy" them.

At the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC on February 3, 1994, Mother Teresa stated: “And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"

Indeed, if we cannot protect the life and liberty of these smallest versions of ourselves, even with their so-called "imperfections," then Mother Teresa's words take on significant meaning.

Well, Nancy, perhaps you will not mind then if sharia law becomes the law in the USA? You will no longer be considered equal to the males who are next to you in congress. In fact, you may be considered less than human.

How would that suit you????
