Gillespie confirms he is running for Va. governor

Former White House adviser and Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ed Gillespie confirmed Friday that he plans to run for Virginia governor in 2017.

Word of Gillespie’s plans leaked earlier this week, after the state senator who was widely considered the GOP’s most likely nominee dropped out. But Gillespie himself had not commented until Friday.

“My focus right now is helping keep our Republican majority in the General Assembly, and next year it will be ensuring that our Republican presidential nominee wins Virginia, but with my friend Mark Obenshain making clear he won’t be running in 2017, I’ll start laying a foundation to run myself after our elections here are over next month,” Gillespie said in an e-mail to The Washington Post.

Gillespie was referring to state Sen. Mark D. Obenshain (R-Rockingham), who on Monday announced that he would not seek the GOP’s nomination. Obenshain, a friend and close political ally of Gillespie’s, had been considered the favorite for the party’s nomination after narrowly losing the race for attorney general in 2013.

Gillespie is a political operative, former chairman of the Republican National Committee and counselor to President George W. Bush. He nearly unseated U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) last year in a closer-than-expected race.

“Former White House adviser and Republican U.S. Senate nominee Ed Gillespie confirmed Friday that he plans to run for Virginia governor in 2017.”

That’s funny. So am I. Then again, I don’t expect this country to make it to 2017 so in the interest of time I am also running for President in 2020.

Please send all donations to the IDF. They will need it a lot more than I will.

Another GOPe politician, just what Virginia needs!

Are there Any true conservatives who can run? Maybe the Rev. E.W. Jackson?

Didn’t Jackson get stomped in the last election he ran? Was it Lt. Governor of something? IIRC it was a pretty significant drubbing.
