WATCH: Russian Warplanes Bomb ISIS Targets in Syria
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 02 Oct 2015

Moscow said on Friday its latest strikes had hit 12 Islamic State targets, but most of the areas it described were in parts of the country where the militant group has little or no sway.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its Sukhoi-34, Sukhoi-24M and Sukhoi-25 warplanes had flown 18 sorties, describing targets in western and northern Syria, including a command post and a communications center in the province of Aleppo, a militant field camp in Idlib and a command post in Hama.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict with a network of sources on the ground, said Islamic State had no presence in the western and northern areas that were struck.

The Observatory's head, Rami Abdulrahman, said one of the targets hit in the latest Russian air strikes, the town of Dar Tazzah in northwestern Aleppo province, was controlled by a number of insurgent groups including the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front.

Russia has however also struck Islamic State areas in a small number of other attacks further east. The Observatory said 12 Islamic State fighters were killed near Raqqa on Thursday, and planes believed to be Russian had also struck the Islamic State-held city of Qarytayn.

President Vladimir Putin's decision this week to launch air strikes on Syria marks a dramatic escalation of foreign involvement in a 4-year-old civil war in which every major country in the region has a stake.

Using Dumb Bombs . The Russians are on a Budget

The smart bombs are usually so PC that they don’t hurt anyone.

Not that I approve of Russia killing non-ISIS targets, but they are sending a message to Obama which says, “You paid billions to recruit and train rebels who are trying to overthrow our main ally in the middle east. We killed most of them off in one bombing run for less than a million.”

Russia is shoving our noses in it and if Reagan or even Bush Jr. was President, this wouldn’t be happening. That’s what makes me so angry.

This is probably because Russia needs ISIS in order to ‘justify’ their efforts to take over Syria and eventually the entire Middle East. They and the ChiComs, that is. They will probably save ISIS for last, or work out a deal with them once the others are done with. I suspect ISIS may actually be an invention of Russia. Because when it comes to Russia, and their KGB/FSB deception tactics, you really can’t put anything past them.

Oh nose, the Russians are attacking Al Qaeda , not ISIS

If you look up these towns the Russians are targeting and then look up the affiliations of the groups holding them, they all lead to a common theme: militant Sunni Islamists

Some behead and crucify, others kidnap and gas Christian villagers children for western sympathy and others just ululate about the glory of killing for shariah

The common militant islamist Sunni theme means that these guys slip in and out of affiliations as easily as obama changes socks and all of them would easily butcher any Syrian villager not of their religion and/ clan

And that is why there are millions of refugees

There are no “ moderates” , only guys who have better PR than ISIS

Begs the question if we know where ISIS is, why haven’t we destroyed them

Assad needs his major bases, cities and towns secured before the Russians go after the sand people holed up in their eastern Syria towns with their slave markets and hills full of crucified bodies

Hopefully when the battle moves east Iraq will “ invite” the Russians to use air bases from which Americans have been disinvited since they were there to re supply the foreign insurgency they created

Russia will bomb, Iranian and Syrian army will go in and clean up

Then the focus will turn on the ISIS sand people if they haven’t already fled back to their foreign countries as “ refugees”

Maybe this is some of Obama’s promised “flexibility” after his last election.

+1. Excellent comment. Putin negated a multi-billion dollar program with just one day and one million, maybe less.

So the Russians are attacking al-Qaida, Bin Laden’s group. Are they now allied with the Obama regime so that Washington should care? If so, Washington is on the wrong side.

So the JP says they are hitting ISIS but Obama says they aren’t?

Awesome watching Obama and the half witted GOPe being taken to the cleaners. Gee, thought Asad was going to be gone 3 years ago.

Russkies are just using up old stockpiles of bombs, but they have some very modern weapons. I suspect that they are saving them until they are sure that their bases are safe.

Unlike the dumb Americans, who front load advanced weaponry, leave it to the Syrians and Qataris to secure, then quietly fly back home.

“..where the militant group has little or no sway. ..”

A retired general on Fox said Russia’s bombing on ISIS is little more than window dressing.
