Donald Trump Gets Touched by First Baptist Dallas' Robert Jeffress

Full credit to The Dallas Morning News' Robert Wilonsky for finding this video first, but boy, it sure is something. First Baptist Church of Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress, it turns out, was not content to give his blessing to the Donald Trump for president circus just once.

Monday afternoon, according to the Christian Broadcasting Network, Jeffress and a whole pile of televangelists — including Fort Worth's favorite anti-vaxxer, Kenneth Copeland — used and were used by Trump at the real-estate magnate's Trump Tower in Manhattan. A clearly smitten Jeffress told Fox News Tuesday that the pastors' meeting with Trump had everything.

"We talked about everything from Kim Davis and religious liberty to the shutdown of the government for Planned Parenthood, to Russia, Syria, ISIS," Jeffress said. "I tell ya, anybody that was in that meeting would've left there, first of all, impressed by his great charisma, by his grasp of the issues, but also the fact that he's in it to win it."

The left wing and anti- Christian Dallas Morning News is beside themselves.

I have said all along that a flawed man or woman willing to be led by God is far better than the most sanctimonious holy roller who is "morally perfect."

God (and later Jesus) never called the most righteous in men's eyes. (The exception is John the Baptist, who was ordained at birth). More often He chose people like Moses (a murderer), Jonah (disobedient), David (adulterer), Solomon (polygamist), and Jesus chose Peter (a liar), James and John ,egotists as big as Trump), and later an executioner (Paul.)

The thing is, the willingness to be led is a totally private thing with the results observed after the fact.

Agreed. Trumps picadillos and honesty about them uniquely qualify him to be trusted as a man of conviction.

But... but... Trump will never get the evangelical vote. I read it on the internet.

[As the two-hour meeting wrapped up, the pastors all laid hands on and prayed for Trump. Trump’s facial contortions during the prayer are the stuff of nightmares and magic.]

It appears THE DONALD was touched by the HOLY SPIRIT during that fateful meeting. Answered prayer.

A lot of evangelicals aren't looking for a president who's one of them, they just want a president who doesn't hate them like the current occupant of the Oval Office does. The fact that [Trump] makes an attempt at evangelicals and says that he likes them is probably good enough."

Amen.

Dear Lord, send us a strong leader in the White House who doesn't hate the country and the American people. Amen.

I don’t get the analogy. Those you mentioned first sinned and then were later repentant about their sins. Trump has never done anything wrong in his life to ask God forgiveness for.

Contrary to popular belief/opinion, humility is not the act of making one’s self a doormat. Rather it is an honest and accurate appraisal of self, relative to others. Indeed, false humility is a form of dishonesty. A self-confident person whose confidence is born of abilities and accomplishments can also be humble. Extreme self-confidence, when not tempered by virtue can easily stray into repugnant arrogance. I think Trump straddles this line. Certainly he is possessed of extreme self-confidence, and given his accomplishments, rightly so.

Perhaps this story suggests that Trump has come to the realization that the task in front of him is larger than self, and that he won’t be able to go it alone. I do pray for the man and hope that he is actively seeking to cultivate a strong spiritual core that will give him the continued strength to continue the path he has chosen with this campaign.

Trump’s public pronouncements he has never asked for forgiveness for anything was not private. Those men you mentioned acknowledged they had fallen short and sought forgiveness. Trump has publicly pronounced he has not and will not. That needs to change - not for the sake of his candidacy, but for his own sake personally.

His shouting profanities at a campaign rally days after speaking to a “values voters” summit doesn’t lend confidence that this isn’t just a show, either.

Actually given his constant insults, playing the victim card, “he viciously attacked me!” etc. doesn’t give me the impression the man is comfortable in his own skin.

I’m not aware of any, “vicious attack,” by Trump that was not provoked. The man does hit back hard, no question.
