Democrats are trying to shut down the Benghazi investigative committee two weeks before the panel is scheduled to hear testimony, saying a top House Republican unwittingly exposed the political goals of the long-running probe.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the California Republican who is the front-runner to be the next House Speaker, said in an interview this week that the committee, formed to probe the 2012 terrorist attack in Libya that killed four Americans, has been worth it because it exposed former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s email practices.
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that while the probe should be shut down, she’ll keep her members on the panel for now, and Mrs. Clinton will testify as scheduled Oct. 22.
But she also said Republicans may have violated the House ethics rules by establishing what she said has now become a “political” committee.
“I do believe this could be an ethical issue in the House,” she said.
Mr. McCarthy’s comments came in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday: “Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee. A select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would have known that any of that had happened had we not fought to make that happen.”
Republicans defended Mr. McCarthy, saying he was pointing out an outcome, not the reason for the probe.
Democrats, though, say the committee has now become the longest-running special investigative committee in House history, yet has produced little evaluation of the 2012 attack.

Hillary not being under investigation herself (which is laughable, but go with it) means she can’t use the excuse of ongoing investigations to pick and choose what questions to answer.

Very little has come out of this investigation if you don't count the discovery that Hillary was storing Top Secret SCI material on a computer in her basement and is now under an investigation by the FBI that could, for a normal citizen, result in enough charges to warrant life imprisonment.

Unfortunately, McCarthy is still and idiot for talking this way. They really want to make this guy the Speaker? Whatever the success or failure of the Committee..this clip will be used to describe it forever...we will see this in every Presidential election and it will be on a continuos loop at the Clinton library...how unfair the VRWC has always been to Bill and Hill.
Yes, McCarthy is an idiot and he just undermined the legitimacy of this very legitimate and necessary investigation.
My advice, come out swinging Mr. McCarthy. Yes, because of the stupidity of Hillary and Obama the Bastard we lost an Ambassador, a State Department Staffer, and two Navy SEALs on 9/11/12. An investigation is warranted at to date successful. Because of this investigation we found out that Hillary had a private insecure server and sent out very classified emails from that server. And now we know that the Russians attempted to hack her server 5 times. Is it about politics? Damn straight it is all about politics BECAUSE IT IS WASHINGTON D.C. and politics ain't bean bag.
Now Pelosi, I'm sorry you have a stupid, cunning, corrupted candidate running for POTUS, but the Benghazi Investigation is warranted. Four Americans died due to inept, incompetent, corrupt choices made by Hillary and Obama the Bastard (for not ordering a rescue). Hillary at the very least needs to pay. Both should be in jail, but I will settle for Hillary in jail.
We don't need another dummy as Speaker.
