That's my single biggest issue with Trump's plan.

The other problem happens when a married couple goes from making say, $48k/year to $51k/year. They're gonna bitch up a storm that their net take home has taken a $5k hit under Trump's plan.

Not that I'm an advocate of the tax system we have (it's a mess, and it sucks, and anyone caught up in the AMT knows what a living HELL the current tax code is!) however the graduated income tax spread out across seven brackets did help to ease the transition from paying $0 in taxes to paying something.

Personally, I've become a fan of scrap the whole idea of an income tax and move towards a Fair Tax, Flat Tax (ONE Tax Rate for all) or National Sales tax.

Anything that gets rid of the IRS is ok in my book!

They would only be taxed on $1,000 at 10%. The first 50k is not taxed.

Payroll taxes would involve Social Security, which might be biting off too much for a first Trump term.

This is what I'm not understanding about Trump's plan.

Is the first $50k I earn "tax free?" Do I pay 10% for anything over $50,001.00 and up to $150,000?

If true, GREAT! However I don't see that in his tax plan.

Like it or not, the original intent (and promises specifically made during adoption) of the income tax as adopted in 1913 was that the majority of citizens would have ZERO tax liability. Trump’s plan returns to that original intent.

DUH! Should’ve kept reading to see the tax table. Yep, the information’s there.... time to study it more.

C'mon, you know better than that. Politicians LIE. They lie today, they lied back in 1913.

The way our system is setup today, if you're not paying taxes on income, you're essentially getting a free ride off of those who DO pay. That's mooching.

I don't like moochers, and I'm damn' sure tired of paying for the 17 million that George Bush created with his tax cuts, Trump's gonna add another 75 MILLION moochers to the rolls of those who pay no tax?

Yeah, look where that got us when Bush did it. Deficits MUSHROOMED.

You need to go to the web page he set up and scroll down and look at the table. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/tax-reform

The answer to your specific question is NO. If you are married you pay:

ZERO tax on first $50,000

10% on $50,001 to 100,000

20% on %100,001 to 300,000

For singles the threshold is half of what’s shown above and heads of households split the difference.

Still a hell of a deal for most tax filers.

You have fallen for the classic crybaby boo hoo fallacy that citizens are not taxed enough. If you actually researched you would find that the adoption of the 16th Amendment was fraudulent and that all federal income taxes are unconstitutional. While we are never gonna get rid of all income taxes, any freedom loving person would celebrate as many people as possible being exempted from them.

We have a horrendous deficit because there is NO RESTRAINT on spending. George Bush never vetoed a single spending bill. NEVER. A 5 % reduction in spending and elimination of baseline budgeting would create a surplus in less than 5 years.

Not arguing it's a hell of a deal for most tax filers.

I'm arguing that everyone who earns income should pay SOMETHING so they have skin in the game.

The problem we have today is too many people who are on welfare for example, that show up and vote for MORE FREEBIES every time some damn' democrat says "vote for me and I'll give you new Obamaphones!"

That's the EXACT kind of mentality that those who pay ZERO taxes have.

When politicians say "we're going to raise taxes to improve the schools for the children!" the moochers who pay ZERO taxes to begin with vote for, and elect those very politicians to raise taxes on everyone else but them.

Why do they keep voting for the Democrats (or incumbents?) Because they're smart enough to know that they're not paying taxes in the first place, so everything to them is "free."

We don't need another 75 MILLION people voting for more "free" stuff while through force of vote, literally reach into our pockets and take our money.

BULLSHIT!

Wrong. I'm saying those of us who pay taxes ARE TAXED TOO MUCH and the moochers who are paying NOTHING need to start paying their own way and stop riding on our backs.

It's a simple concept, too bad, so sad that you don't grasp that.

So let me see if I have this straight. You are pissed off because you don’t like how much taxes you pay, but you’d rather keep on paying them than agree to something that reduces your taxes because it also reduces taxes for other people.

Yep, you got me, I have no clue what you’re thinking.

While we are never gonna get rid of all income taxes, any freedom loving person would celebrate as many people as possible being exempted from them.

That's sheer lunacy. I'm a freedom loving person and I object to the fact that I'm in the economic class of those who pay more than 80% of all taxes to the Federal Government while tens of millions of people DON'T PAY THEIR OWN WAY. Who's paying taxes for them? People like me.

Tell me again I'm supposed to "celebrate" all those who aren't paying taxes while I am.

We have a horrendous deficit because there is NO RESTRAINT on spending. George Bush never vetoed a single spending bill. NEVER. A 5 % reduction in spending and elimination of baseline budgeting would create a surplus in less than 5 years.

We had a horrendous deficit under Bush for a number of reasons, here's but two: First, no spending restraint. Second, George Bush moved 17 million people OFF THE TAX ROLLS and now those people pay zero taxes, while people like me carry their load.

Exactly how is that fair?

Are you seriously saying I should pay more in taxes to pay for those who don't? That's SOCIALISM. You're advocating SOCIALISM and PROGRESSIVE TAX RATES.

So you want to surrender before the fight starts? We should just give up because democrats are so much smarter than we are - and you’ve seen this movie before? us?

Gimme a break.

If we believe in an idea we need to fight for it. That’s what Trump will do - he’ll fight to make this happen. That’s what we need to do too.

You need to take an economics class. When taxes are reduced, personal spending increases. The increased spending creates economic growth in a way that cannot be achieved through taxation. This economic growth is the only way to repay deficits and increase revenue to the government.

In a deficit running economy, taxing the lower income brackets is simply taking discretionary spending away from poor people and converting it into NOTHING, because it’s all washed out as an insignificant line item in the deficit and contributes ZERO to the economy.

You are not paying for ANYTHING that those low income people you hate benefit from. The money you pay in taxes today was spent 20 years ago. Trump gets it and you don’t - the only way out of this mess is to grow the economy and the best way to start is to simplify the tax code.

CAVEAT: Donald Trump’s tax plan does not mention mortgages or property taxes.

Donald says mortgage interest is deductible.
