Lawns are clustered in cities and suburbs.

Really? I know several people that live in rural areas, and they all have lawns. Some over an acre in size. Who do you think buys riding lawn mowers? Definitely not the family in North Dallas that has 20sq ft to mow.. And people who have tons of land often have a small/medium yard, even if the fields are left to wild/farmed.

The other day, I peeked outside the window and found that 70-something neighbor had taken it upon himself to mow our front yard. ...best to retreat quietly from the windows. We wouldn't want to startle him and make him fall.

Well if you couldn't already tell he's a liberal douche, we have confirmation!

In addition to the ecological effects of runoff, which can overwhelm water bodies with excess levels of nitrogen and phosphorous, there's the act of lawn-mowing itself. According to National Geographic, one hour running a gas mower can pollute as much as driving a car for four hours.

If you're smart, you use grass that grows well in your area, and you don't need to buy tons of fertilizers. Plus, you get more runoff from concrete (oil stains), and dirt doesn't soak up water at all. More runoff. And last I checked, all that CO2 'pollution' is what plants crave (not electrolytes!).

Responding to a Wonkblog piece describing lawns (accurately) as a "soul-crushing time suck,"

Hmm.. For some people, maybe. But for a lot of people, there's a meditation-like benefit from getting out and doing the yardwork. I kinda miss it, as much as I hated it when a kid. My mom loved getting out into her garden/front flower beds and working, although she can't do as much now that the youngest is in school so she has a job.

It really amazes me how, instead of writiing a decent article that people can take seriously, most liberal causes like this take a complete tone of superiority and tyranny. Starting with the title. Also, whose kids want to play out in the dirt? I think the dogs would prefer a decent lawn as well!
