I actually took several hundred rounds of 5.56 and put a very small smear of bacon grease on the tips.

It's not that effective unless they know that you (and many other armed Americans) are doing that.

Smear BACON GREASE on the tips of our bullets?
What about a glob of country ham fat? We have plenty of
hog fat bacon drippings; but the solidified stuff is easier
to handle.
