House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price on Monday received the backing of two powerful committee chairman for his bid to be the next House majority leader.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) both announced they endorse Price. Ryan, who preceded Price as Budget Committee chairman, called the Georgia Republican a committed conservative and friend.

“Tom has a proven record of advancing conservative solutions and principles,” Ryan said in a statement. “He has the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective Majority Leader and I’m proud to support him.”

Ryan told reporters on Friday that he would not be running for any leadership positions but waited until Monday to endorse Price. Hensarling did not announce formal plans to seek a leadership position in the wake of the surprise resignation Friday of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), but he was widely considered to be a potential contender. He ended that speculation Monday morning by backing Price.

Price apparently sold out for this job. The real power will go to Dem-lite McCarthy.

So is this the bone being thrown to conservatives in exchange for putting McCarthy in as Speaker?

“Matt Fuller @MEPFuller
I just heard this too: Cathy McMorris Rodgers is dropping out of the Majority Leader race before it ever really began”

McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA) has a 58% convervative voting record, according to Heritage Action’s rankings. Tom Price’s (R-GA) voting is ranked 80% conservative, and the two other contenders Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Steve Scalise (R-LA) are both rated 63%. The average Republican in the House is rated 68% conservative by their voting, so both Boehner team members vying to be House Speaker, McCarthy and Scalise, vote less conservatively than the average Republican member.

I can absolutely support this! (though my first choice would be Gowdy). Tom Price is my district rep and he has not disappointed me yet. He’s a good guy.
