US Army Issues New Shoulder Patch for Campaign Against “ISIL”
Terror Trends Bulletin ^ | 27 Sept 15 | Christopher Holton

The US Army has issued a new shoulder patch for the slightly more than 3,000 troops who President Obama has decided he can spare to fight the world’s most dangerous Jihadist entity, the Islamic State, which the US federal government still insists on referring to as “ISIL,” despite the fact that there are now Jihadi groups from West Africa to the Philippines that have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.

Nothing illustrates better the institutional denial that we are saddled with as a nation in our fight to save Western civilization than our federal counter terror bureaucracy’s slavish attitude toward outmoded views on the threat from Jihad…except maybe the new shoulder patch that is the subject of this post. Here it is:

The Army does NOT issue shoulder patches for campaigns. Shoulder patches are for unit designation plus “Ranger” or “Airborne” for members of those units. Campaign ribbons are created and issued to indicate a campaign for soldiers to wear on their chest and campaign streamers to go on their regimental flags. Neither of these are done until after a campaign is completed.

What a withering campaign against ISIS.

So far the shoulder patch seems to be the main thrust.

Beware ISIS, one day you might actually see one of these patches. Be very afraid...

ISIS is not going to be fooled by that imitation, and may be even more offended by the empty gesture. Still leading from behind, I see.

American and other allied troops are the ones who may be fooled by the similarity. Worst case scenario, is this confusion of who’s who will result in Friendly Fire.
Can ‘they’ not see that?

They do issue patches for troops involved in some kind of “peacekeeping” BS. Of course, in the new gay military, I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t do away with traditional ribbons worn in orderly rows across the chest in favor of something more hip, like wristbands or shoulder sashes.

In Military Heraldry, everything on that patch must stand for something, so what’s with the wreath, crossed scimitars, and three stars? Your guess is as good as mine.

It doesn’t matter. Russian Marines showed up and ISIS moved back to Frankfurt.

When I was a boy scout, I collected patches for the back of my red jacket. Maybe someone was going down that road...

New US Army shoulder patch. Note absence of anything identifiable with the US Army or the United States of America.........publishing a picture of the patch so ISIS will know who the US soldier (s) is/are?.....what are Obama and his advisers thinking?

I know, stupid question..........

How did this happen? He purged the military because there should have been a coup!!!

Plus watching the jets at the same time as reading this thread is too much to handle!!

Supposedly the heraldic description...
Secondary source. Still trying to confirm.
.
The Army’s patch features crossed scimitars, a palm wreath and stars. The scimitars, short swords with curved blades, are meant to symbolize the twin goals of the U.S.-led coalition: to defeat the Islamic State, also referred to as ISIL, and to restore stability in the region, according to Army documents.

The palm wreath is symbol of honor. While the stars and the buff-and-blue colors on the patch indicate the three-star command and the land, air and sea forces involved in the fight.

.

So, yes. Scimitars. 3 stars for the command echelon still sounds weird to me.

“Ooooh, I got hit with another patch in my eye! Ooooh...”

LOL

You may be on to something.

What they really need is a patch gun.

It can hurl those patches accurately for up to five feet.

LOL
