Funny he never mentioned the slaughter going on of Christians in other countries. No mention of abortion or the racket of $$ for body parts of near term or term babies. No mention of so many things that really matter. Jesus said the poor we would always have among us. To criticize a country that gives more than any other in the world for the poor is out of line IMO>

I am so very blessed that I don’t have to go through ANYONE for Salvation! My Salvation comes through the shed blood of CHRIST JESUS!

“For by grace are ye saved through faith (IN CHRIST); and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. While I take exception to "Walking in Christ's shoes" (impossible), I'm sorry your Catholic faith has been undermined by this man's leadership.

"The Church is dying and Francis being from Argentina can speak to the largest growth population in Catholicism which is Hispanics. Mind you the ethics of many of the peasants they are attracting are part Isis themselves."

Wow! That is definitely micro-aggression, if not racist. Ha! As for ISIS peasants being attracted to Catholicism, better that than their sick theology. I'd support anyone who converts from that murdering, raping, torturing, mutilating, misogynistic, imperialist, peodophile cult. Go Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, etc. Live long and prosper. :)

Disclaimer in case you haven't read my posts: I'm an agnostic, but believe in Christian/Judeo values. Those values built the greatest nation on Earth that so many have emulated which change the face of this rock for the better.

Once I grew out of my young rebel days, I found that compassion, empathy, sympathy, ethics, integrity, honor were the foundation of a better human experience for all. I simply subscribe to age old, "Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto You".

The canons of the Catholic Church have not ever and should not ever have any political bearing on the US and/or It’s Constitution. This Pope knows no bounds of societal appropriateness but I tend to think he got that/this way by being a bistro bouncer. I had an uncle who owned taverns and bars that knew more about the vicissitudes of humans than what this Pope has shown me.

Is the above what he actually said in an address on American soil at this time?

No. It's what you think he said. Note the [brackets] inserted in the text. Who inserted them? The piece reads a quite different way, if you take the [brackets] out.

Catholics were not around during Christ time. The word is not even in the bible and neither is the pope and he’s not the vicar of Christ, no one is. Have faith in Christ only, none other, no praying to Mary, Saints ETC. Call no one father except GOD.

Also the Catholic Catechism what say about Islam here is the quote.
“The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”

This is not right and they do not worship the same god as Christians.

Not that you have much to begin with, but you lose any shred of credibility you might of had by repeating blatant falsehoods.

If you want hangings from around the same period, look to your own team and all the "witches" they strung up over in N.E..

The word “Protestant” isn’t in the Bible. They weren’t around in Christ’s human time on earth. By your logic, we can write them off as well?

The ONE thing that makes all the odd branches acceptable IMO is the core that “We are not worthy, only say the word and I shall be healed” ... Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior for our salvation...

There is something else, a frame of mind that God can accept to be true, a confession, not just a profession:

"I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3,5 AV)

One must turn to God from sin, its idols, and idolatry; believing on Jesus, Lord and Messiah alone, and be credited with His righteousness, as He was credited with our sins and punished by God for them, such that The Father might reconcile a believer to Himself for ever, based on faith alone, justified at once from the foreseen moment of true belief on the faith and work of The Only Begotten Son substituting for us, and our past never again remembered.

This is the true gospel--there is no other version of it.

Be a little honest with this--your people were driven from their country by Catholicism.

Free Republic is a political forum. Also, the alliance of Protestant Evangelicals and observant Catholics is vital to save this nation from ruin, as it did during the 1980’s. So this thread is not wise.

I’m not Catholic, but I do respect the church as a legitimate fellowship. You have a different opinion and are certainly entitled to it, but this was not the time and place. It can only sow discord at a time we can’t afford it.

catholic just means “universal” that’s why we add Roman to distinguished from those brave Christians later called the Reformed Dutch, Reformed French, Huguenots, Lutherans, Protestants etc who wanted to get back to the Bible..

they were protesting against the errors and heresy of the Italian pope and his Roman catholic group..

and willing to die for their faith in God..
