Syrian army uses new Russian jets to strike Islamic State: monitor
Syrian government forces used newly arrived Russian warplanes to bombard Islamic State insurgents in Aleppo province in northern Syria, a group monitoring the civil war said on Thursday, in an attempt to break a siege on a nearby air base.
Russia is bolstering its ally Damascus against rebels with military aid that U.S. officials say has included fighter jets, helicopter gunships, artillery and ground forces.
The air strikes, which began earlier this week, were accompanied by ground attacks near the Kweiris air base in the east of Aleppo province, where government troops have long been surrounded by Islamist militants, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

A prominent pro-Hezbollah newspaper in Lebanon reported Tuesday that Russia and the terrorist organization have formed an alliance and will fight together in Syria. The parties to the alliance are the states of Russia, Iran, Syria, and Iraq, with Lebanons Hezbollah as the fifth party,
Al-Akhbar Editor in Chief Ibrahim al-Amin wrote. The pact would be called the 4+1 alliancea pun based on the P5+1 that negotiated the nuclear deal with Iran. Hezbollah is a proxy of Iran based in Lebanon and Moscow has been working with Tehran to save Bashar al-Assads regime, even sending men and weapons to Syria.

In a phone interview with CNN Tuesday evening, Trump claimed that theres something in the Iran deal that people dont understand saying if someone attacks Iran, we have to come to their defense.
Does that include Israel? Trump asked. And most people say yes, they dont have an exclusion for Israel. So if Israel attacks Iran, according to that deal, I believe, the way it reads, unless they have a codicil or they have something to it, that we have to fight with Iran against Israel. ..."
Trump was most probably referring to language highlighted by the opponents of the deal. On page 142, the deal includes a clause that states, Co-operation through training and workshops to strengthen Irans ability to protect against, and respond to nuclear security threats, including sabotage, as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems.
Washington-based Center for Security Policy asserted that Annex III appears to commit the United States and other world powers to the defense of Irans nuclear program.

After Netanyahu-Putin meeting, Israel military says it is coordinating with Russia on Syria
"Moscow will reportedly provide Russian troops in Syria with an advanced anti-aircraft missile system as part of its military support for Syrian president Bashar Assad.
"This system is the advanced version used by Russia, and it's meant to be operated by Russians in Syria," a Western diplomat who is regularly briefed on US, Israeli, and other intelligence assessments told Reuters.
And as The Daily Beast's Michael Weiss points out, any anti-aircraft missiles deployed by Russian troops in Syria won't be directed at ISIS, since ISIS has no air force.

Re: Remember Putinator, neither ISIS nor the other groups there reportedly have NO aircraft. But the US and Israel does.
Make that: neither ISIS nor the other groups there reportedly have any aircraft. But the US and Israel does.
Remember ETL, the US bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade during the Kosovo war. Why should the Russians trust the Americans won’t make an “oops” mistake on them like they did the Chinese?
At the beginning there were at least 4 people on or near the weapon. then it was like they new it was going to be attacked and everyone backed off. Heck even the cameraman kept filming the cannon waiting for the airstrike.
What’s up with that?
Then there were none yet achmed continues filming an artillery piece sitting by it's lonesome in the desert.
Then out of the clear blue sky comes a piece of ordnance making a direct hit on said artillery weapon, destroying it with what seems to be a very small explosion.
Perhaps someone more knowledgable than me why this doesn't smell like week old trout.
While the Russians are making moves to basically take control of the Middle East (under the pretense of helping Assad), on the eastern Europe front, they are planning to build another major military base on the Ukraine border. 2nd one in just a few weeks
Their intentions are obvious. They are attempting to restore the evil empire, or something similar to it, and then some (with the Middle East action).

Russia Plans Second Big Military Base Near Ukrainian Border
Reuters, via freebeacon.com ^ | September 23, 2015 | Anton Zverev
BOGUCHAR, Russia (Reuters) Russia is planning a second major military base near the border with Ukraine, where NATO accuses Russian troops of helping pro-Moscow separatists fight Kievs forces.
The new base will house 5,000 soldiers and heavy weaponry, according to public documents and people working at the site.
It is further east than one under construction in Belgorod region reported by Reuters earlier this month but still close to the border with separatist-held parts of Ukraines eastern Luhansk region, where there has been heavy fighting.
The bases are part of a Russian military buildup along a new line of confrontation with the West, running from the Black Sea in the south to the Baltic in the north, which carries echoes of the Cold War-era Iron Curtain.
Russia has also increased its military presence in Syria.

Wow, surgical precision there.
Modern strike aircraft need a lot of ground logistics to operate. That is an extremely hard thing to keep up on when your country is small and in a civil war.
I suspect the Russians are flying the jets with Syrian paint.
