Umm....
Talking to my grandfather prior to his passing we discussed just this.
He said your ancesters came from Scandinavia and Europe where they’ve had arts, literature, gubmint for hundreds of years.
Blacks on the other hand a few generations ago were living in mud huts.
Umm....
A black guy walked up and said, “Give me money to buy a candy bar”!
My father replied, “Why should I give you money”?
The Black guy said, “Cause your ancestors enslaved my ancestors”.
My father said, (and this is a man who championed the Civil Rights movement until they became militant), “My ancestors were out making civilization while yours were still swinging in the trees”.
Now this would never go down today, it is so not P.C.
What impressed me was that my father was an ally of the African-Americans then UNTIL they all became Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael, the Black Panthers and violent folk...
Today it is worse. If that event had happened today, the Black guy would have shot and killed him on the spot.
The mud huts might not have anything to do with it, but you've got to consider the environment, which was perpetually warm and humid. Evolution would favor a physiology that's slow to action, since action produces heat, which is counterproductive in that environment. What you end up with is a kind of natural indolence which is coded in the genes. This presents a problem, however, because there needs to be a mechanism in place to rouse the individual from his lethargy in times of danger. You end up with a fight-or-flight response that is hair-triggered and strong.
