Cool video. Looks like probe and drogue rather than boom.

That was not an escort. No fighter force on earth would fly in that manner to escort something in a protective mode. This concept was well settled in the Battle of Britain.

I could be wrong, but I don't think a TU-95 bomber offers refueling, so then, what are those fighter aircraft doing if not an escort? In any case, I am worried that Russia is positioning itself to join in the Iranian takeover of Iraq and to jump to the defense of Iran should Israel decide to pull the trigger. 0dungo really F****D this one up.

WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT IRAQ!!!!!!!!!!

Could be a refueler but I see low mounted wings on that lead aircraft not high mounted wings?

The SU-24 pictured have their wings mounted further back from what I saw on the video.

What led me to guess Mig 29s was the resemblance to F/A 18s. I don’t think they could be Mig 27s since I don’t see the slide joints for the VG.

But I admit these are just educated guesses.

Does Russia have MRFs? We have the F-16 and F/A-18 and can equip F-15s if need be (although it isn’t what we use the Strike Eagle for).

Yes. Russia has MRFs We have more that are considered MRFs than they. It is odd that most of what I have read do not include the A-10 Warthog. It has been dismissed as a relic yet it is a favorite of the ground troops because of the Cannon that the airframe is built around. It is a “non aircraft” as far as the Pentagon and The USAF is concerned.
F-15s, F-18s F-16s are included in the MRF category. Go figure.

I don’t think there is anything like the A-10 anywhere. But it is purely CAS and CAP. And I suspect it will NOT be out of service very long. It is too loved by the ground troops and too good at what it does.

And, I have always thought it is magnificent.
