At least five people were injured, two of them seriously, after a powerful early-morning explosion destroyed a home in Waxahachie, Texas.
Police say a home in the 100 block of Arabian Road unexpectedly blew up at around 8am local time and burst into flames, raining debris on neighboring houses in the Saddlebrook Estates section of the city.
Two of the victims who had been inside the doomed house were airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.

Natural gas explosions aren't common, but they aren't unheard of, either. I'm guessing a gas leak.

From the amount of damage I agree. I can’t believe anyone in that house lived.

Blast felt 10 miles away and we have to read of it in a British source?

A few years back a house about a mile from us blew up due to a propane buildup and explosion in the basement. Woke us out of a sound sleep. The only thing left standing was the foundation and the propane tank. The two occupants, or what was left of them, was found in the trees about 50 yards from the house.

Gas detected after the blast, prompting evacuation. Which means there was indeed gas service to the neighborhood. I doubt they have basements, those are pretty uncommon in local developments that new, but I have always wondered if people sealing and foaming their attics might be courting a hazard? It seems to be fairly popular here.

Either natural gas leak (not uncommon in North Texas - the local gas company in known for that) or meth lab. would be my two guesses.
