CS Lewis makes a careful differentiation. Indeed, he says, many who claim the mantle of pacifism are nothing but cowards who cloak themselves in the moral superiority of non-violence, and not only try to hide their own cowardice, but arrogantly lord their alleged moral rectitude over others. But Lewis cautions against lumping these types together with the tiny number of people who truly believe in non-violence and are content with submitting to the injuries, insults and indignities of this world, in pursuit of the peace and comfort of the next.
They all have this crazy thing for kids.
Some new parents have had issues with their Dobe not letting *them* go in the nursery.
The dogs sort of ‘adopt’ them as their own and take it very seriously.
My two will fly me like a kite if they see little kids while we’re in the pet stores.
Odin, of his own volition, will start doing every trick he knows, to get the kid to pay attention to him.
I have no kids and neither dog was raised with kids, which makes it even stranger.
Seven isn’t real crazy about adults petting her but she lets kids hug her neck, which, as you know, is a *huge* deal, with some dogs.
I suspect it might be behavior inherited from the Baeuceron herding dogs used to make the breed.
Or they’re all bonkers for kids, just because.
Who knows?
:D
Salamander, I had seen your home page a long time ago and noticed the Dobermans(and who could miss your gorgeous trikes as well).
Thanks for sharing the story about your heaven sent dog.
Sorry you had to go through what you did, but God sent you a message that He was watching over you, even in the midst of your trials.
Thank you.
People in church are often called upon to give their testimony...can you imagine me giving mine?
:D
I did not come from a religious family and found Christ about 10 years after that *but* I knew for a fact that God was real, that day.
That dog was an answered prayer and a miracle.
I was lucky to experience that in my life, despite *how* it came to be.
Salamander, in my church every Sunday we share testimonies. The sharing is very wonderful and helpful.
Sometimes, our pastor says, we don’t need a sermon this morning, we just had church!
I hope you do share your testimony when God leads you to do so.
You just never know who needs to hear it.
Well, I just did, here.
God is real.
God hears us.
God cares.
God protects and provides.
God is willing and able to give us what we need, even though He doesn’t necessarily give us what we think we “want”.
I reckon my testimony is odd, in that God seems to prefer to give me what I need, in the form of dogs.
It’s happened often enough that I cannot honestly question it.
:)
Amen, sister.
Amen.
:)
Well, I sorta consider that specific formulation of PC to be a sarcastic commentary on how far PC has gone (much TOO far, that is).
When I was at Domino’s, I survived a 2 on 1 criminal assault. The 4 cell MagLite I carried at the time proved to be less than effective as a defensive tool. When taken and used on me, the perps found it to be less than effective as an offensive tool.
Indeed, and the intruder is now the pacifist. Nicely balanced equation.
Unbelievably stupid. Now they carry these darling, tiny, useless LED flashlights.
Just like: In Cold Blood
I did not know that Chuck Norris lived in New Mexico.
Thank you so much for sharing that, Salamander!
Another great reason why God made a dog.

We need to banned high impact canes!
