WASHINGTON, D.C., September 17, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) -- According to a recent poll, most Americans say same-sex "marriage" is more important than religious freedom.
ABC News, in conjunction with The Washington Post, has conducted a poll to determine Americans' opinion on religious freedom, in light of the Supreme Court's decision to constitutionalize same-sex "marriage."
Pitting "Equality Under The Law" against "Religious Beliefs," the poll asked, "What's more important if they conflict?" Seventy-four percent of respondents said "equality" was more important, compared to only 19 percent saying religious freedom was top priority.
Critics note that the wording of polls is always significant, and can affect the poll's outcome. "Equality Under The Law" is an appealing phrase to Americans, whereas "Religious Beliefs" is rather neutral. The poll did not ask, for instance, "Is homosexual marriage more important than the Constitution's First Amendment guaranteeing religious freedom?"
The poll also asks about the plight of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, a Christian who refuses to violate her “sincerely-held beliefs” by issuing homosexual "marriage" licenses.
Respondents said that Ms. Davis should be forced to violate her faith. In answer to the question, "Should Kim Davis have to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples?," respondents said yes, 63 percent to 33 percent.
Davis was put in jail by a federal judge for refusing to obey his order to issue homosexual “marriage” licenses. Among those polled who say Davis should be forced to issue gay licenses, 72 percent said they agreed with Judge David Bunning's decision to put Ms. Davis in jail.
Thirty-three percent of respondents said they were Democrats, 22 percent Republicans, and 35 percent said they were independent.
Of Evangelicals polled, 61 percent believe Davis should not be required to issue gay licenses. Among conservatives, 66 percent agreed. Not surprisingly, support for jailing Davis was stronger among liberals, Democrats, and those not religiously affiliated.
Davis will be honored by the Family Research Council with their "Cost of Discipleship Award" for her stance.
A majority of Americans support homosexual “marriage” in ABC/Post polls since 2011.
The poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, may be found here.
In other words, ONE THIRD of "Evangelicals" and "conservatives" believe that Davis should be forced to violate her religious beliefs.

Lies.
sometimes we are our own worst enemies.
Then this poll says too that Christians should not be allowed to work for the government.
Two thirds are not very smart.
When presented with gay marriage on a state ballot, Americans have overwhelming voted it down, about 28 times out of 30.
It’s not a law. Supreme Court can’t make a law. they can invent constitutional rights that dont exist, but can’t make law.
And I wouldn’t be surprised by the 2/3 poll after 20 years of indoctrination starting with Will and Grace.
No mention of rampant venereal disease, unchecked drug abuse, severe depression, depravity..
Kim Davis is in an unusual position because as an elected official she is Caesar, in effect. There are a number of aspects of the Davis case that make it complex, which is why poll questions about it are meaningless.
You, my friend, are living in the past. Things are changing very quickly. The very fact that it was on ballot is very scary.
“It’s the law of the land”, is the same thing German’s said when they were turning in Jews during the holocost.
They should have asked, “Can the Supreme Court make a law?”
Then we’d know what we need to know about the respondents.
The thing is, propaganda works. And all-gay-all-the-time has been with us now for long enough for it to take hold in the grass roots.
“You, my friend, are living in the past”
Those defeats for gay marriage were NOT in the distant past, and anything can be placed on a ballot.
I'm not even referring to incest and polygamy, either. I know a guy who is out of work and facing a potential situation that could involve substantial medical bills. He's seriously thinking about getting "married" to one of his close friends just so he can: (1) get on his friend's medical insurance policy, and (2) enable his friend to collect Social Security death benefits if something goes wrong.
It won't be long before stories like this actually become commonplace, not the exception.
“You, my friend, are living in the past. Things are changing very quickly. The very fact that it was on ballot is very scary.”
When a male homosexual conceives, carries and pushes out a human baby without surgical intervention, and when a lesbian conceives with her partner; then I will concede things have changed. And, oh yes, when The Almighty circulates a correction to his commandments about marriage. “Things” may change, but The Word does not.
Perhaps this is why Cruz is not moving in the polls. But it’s okay for Moslems to be in the government?
The enemy wants to destroy the family....and the idea of romanticism to the exclusivity of everything else seems to have led to easy divorce, which led to the notion of co-habitation as the norm.
After a few years, sexual behaviour was mere recreation...and from that, the TYPE of sexual behaviour was not questioned.
Excellent! And what law did she violate? There was only a decision in a case.
