U.S. Denounces Russian Move To 'Close' American Cultural Center In Moscow
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty ^ | September 16, 2015 | By RFE/RL

The United States says Russia has decided to close a decades-old American cultural center operating in Moscow under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy, a move it said was damaging to the two countries' already frayed ties.

U.S. Ambassador John Tefft said in a September 16 statement that the embassy "deeply regrets the Russian government's unilateral decision" to close the embassy's American Center, which opened at the All-Russia State Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow in 1993.

"The library recently terminated the formal agreement for embassy support of the center, informed us of its intention to replace the American director of the center, and its intent to take full control of all of the center's activities," Tefft said.

Why is the US trying to impose decadent culture on a country that doesn’t want it?

I don't know that the U.S. was doing that.

Why ask me about any of anyway?

All I did was post the article, and comment as to the excuse provided by the Russians.

But it does sound to me like they want to take control of the Center. Co-opting the "opposition" when not able to bulldoze it, is the Russian way, isn't it?

Should the U.S. take control of Russia Times offices in Washington? Then slowly squeeze it in an ever-tightening grasp?

That's what I predict will happen to the 'American Center' in Moscow.

Yup, I smell an event that crossed the Russian cultural sensibilities line, as Obama loves to try to shove the worst of American culture down the throats of other countries. I suspect someone was invited to speak about an insensitive topic (gaydar alert) guaranteed to rile the Russians, or they had some form of offensive entertainment group perform. Something happened, I suspect, along these lines.

It may have been cumulative. These types of rub their nose in it organized events may have been happening with some frequency until the Russians reached their limit, and the iron fist finally came down. Just a calculated guess.

If you folks would have gone to the link, and read the article, in the sidebar there was a larger issue than gay-faggy agitators (that Russian press uses as counter-point to show how 'good' Putin is, in comparison).

Dog and pony show indeed. We are worried about gay flags but not violation of InF treaty.

Tell me the gays are not instrumentalized by communists for US surrender.

Supposedly it was part of their long range plans to undermine what once(?) made America powerful.

It is certainly the Devil's plan, one would think.

Imagine a world lacking the stabilizing lodestone and navigational compass which the U.S. was (up until recently?).

This nation always had it's sinners and scalawags, but it stood for something better too.

We lost 55,000+ American lives in South Korea.

The differences between the North, and South today, is like difference between the darkness of night, and the light of day.

Just saying...

Honestly, to think this administration would take something like a Nuclear Treaty with Russia more serious than promoting queer rights, is difficult to believe.
No offense Blue, but I’d be surprised if Obozo wasn’t giving Putin our launch codes.

I hear that.

I suppose we might be thankful that launch codes were probably not ever emailed to Hillary Clinton?

Good gawd that woman is an IDIOT.

She actually thought she could win 'em over with her 'charm' and good intentions.

Ok, maybe idiot isn't the best terminology.

Dangerously, even fatally naive would be better description.

I blame the man who appointed her.

He did so for all the wrong reasons. What a bastard. An illegitimate son. Faithful only for stabbing us in the back as long as he can do it without getting caught, or else be able to keep up the pretenses that it wasn't back-stabbing, when what he chooses to do as response to challenges are not outright weakness, and poor decision making on his part.

Even when Obozo does something half-way right -- the overall effort is disjointed, and his timing is terrible. Like --- threatening to suspend aid & support to Egypt only after the Muslim Brotherhood was thrown out of office.

“Impasse Over U.S.-Russia Nuclear Treaty Hardens As Washington Threatens ‘Countermeasures’”

Thank you for bringing this article to our attention. Just finished reading it. Potential trouble here, but Obama’s Admin will do nothing. We will have to wait for a President Trump to cure this problem.
