Its said that the world is run by those who show up. That can be a rather exclusive group, I learned, last weekend, as the only member of the media to attend an anti-Harper press conference by David Suzuki. The result? An unplanned interview with a man who evades opposition.
Suzuki was in my hometown of London, Ont., campaigning against a Conservative incumbent under the auspices of Leadnow, a foreign-funded independent advocacy group trying to leverage strategic voting by the left to oust Stephen Harper come October.
I had requested a formal interview with Suzuki via one of his myriad press secretaries through his foundation, to no avail.
