More than 20 Christiansburg High School students are out of class Thursday morning after wearing Confederate flags on their clothing.
According to Montgomery County Public Schools spokesperson Brenda Drake, the students were originally put in in-school suspension. However, the students didn’t comply and were told to leave school for the day. This involves 22 or 23 students, according to Drake.
Several students were given in-school-suspension and 17 were given out of school suspension for disrupting the school day.
The students protested the school's decision across the street Thursday morning. Some students received three days of out-of-school suspension; others received one day.
"This is nothing about racism. This is about where we come from, what our ancestors did and what everybody here's family has fought for, the right to do what we want," Christiansburg High senior Andrew Love said.
Rules at Christiansburg High School and three other county schools do not allow students to display the Confederate flag because it's considered offensive.
Last month students were told to remove Confederate flag bumper stickers from their cars.

The school loses money each day the student isn’t there. If enough of them get expelled, they’ll win.

This is exactly where the rubber meets the road. Kudos to the students for standing up for what’s right. The parents and all concerned should protest and make their voices heard.
It’s high time we don’t let them get away with it any longer. Educate THEM on the Constitution. Contact the ACLJ and other advocates.

Well if you go to an intergrated school a student wearing the confederate flag may be killed.
Nikki Haley must be cheering the administration. She even blamed the flag for the church murders.
