US Senate blocks bid to add Israel, prisoner conditions to Iran deal (53-45)

WASHINGTON - Democrats in the US Senate blocked a last-ditch effort by Republicans on Thursday to add new conditions before President Barack Obama can waive any sanctions under the Iran nuclear deal.

After Obama's fellow Democrats in the Senate twice blocked a disapproval resolution meant to kill the nuclear agreement, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell introduced an amendment to the measure that would bar the president from lifting sanctions on Iran unless it recognized Israel's right to exist and released American prisoners.

The vote was 53-45, meaning the measure failed to attract the 60 votes it would need to advance.

So to Democrats, American prisoner’s lives don’t matter.

I hope they pounce on Hitlery about this.

Theatrics to attempt to make McConnell appear concerned about America

Prayers up for Israel.

Psalm 70:1-3:

"Make haste, O God, to deliver me;

make haste to help me, O LORD.

Let them be ashamed and confounded

that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt. Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.""

Which Republicans voted against Israel?

Democrats just blocked the 3rd cloture motion on the resolution of disapproval.

Unless McConnell is suddenly going to grow a spine and nuke the filibuster today, looks like the end to Congress attempts to stop this catastrophic capitulation.

Probably none (53 voted in favor).

2 Senators missed the vote.

Wasn’t the idea here to get the Dems on the record with an actual vote which can later be used against them.

No, the idea was to give themselves cover later.

If you can provide an instance where all the ‘later’ they have promised over the years EVER resulted in action benefiting anyone but the Democrats, I am interested in seeing it.

And it’s time people realize when they are being strung along. I really do not know ho much more obvious they can make it.

Mitch did promise to work with Barry afterall. I don’t know why people pretend he did not.

Why does it take 60 votes? Reid only needed 51.

“Probably none (53 voted in favor).”

What am I missing?

The vote was 53-45.

There are only 44 Rats in the Senate. Even if all voted for it, they would still need 7 - 9 Republicans (as there are allegedly 2 Independents).

I might be mistaken, but didn’t Mitch change the rules back to needing 60 as soon as the GOP regained the senate?

“I might be mistaken, but didn’t Mitch change the rules back to needing 60 as soon as the GOP regained the senate?”

The little piece of birdpoop is afraid of using the same tactics the dems did in order to get big dem donor funds to win his seat again since he “gets along” so well with the muslim-in-chief.

There are only 44 Rats in the Senate.

There is a socialist, Sanders of Vermont, and an “independent”, King of Maine, who vote with the RATS. So there are 46 RATS.

Manchin, RAT of WVa, voted with the Pubbies because the RATS did not need his vote to stop the amendment. I am surprised that other so-called “vulnerable” RATS like Bennet of CO did not cross over. But maybe not. The RATS probably think it is more important for Bennet to energize their base, who hate Israel, than to appeal to the “moderates.” They are superb political tacticians so they are probably right.
