I believe the death threats he claims to have received were a joke.

And you don’t try some lame, crappy attempt at humor that embarasses and inconveniences an LEO in a public establishment. ((Unless he’s lying, and really deserves what he got).

If it was a joke, you would have said it in a joking way from the start, laughed, and then say “I’m just pulling your leg. Always glad to see you guys!”.
Notice they won’t mention his ethnicity? I think that would undermine his story that he was joking...

I got that impression the first time I read this story and then I saw his photo. Bless his heart. That just might be the only job he was qualified to do or the only job he could find

Non wonder he was fired, nobody in the food industry would want to offend an obese customer with three chins, he would probably have doubled their food sales for the day.
I am uncomfortable with the snobbism of the left regarding employment. All honest work is noble, and not every human has the abilities needed to be a computer whiz or a writer or a lawyer.
I am inclined to believe your scenario, but I am troubled by this quote given by the LEO:

Perhaps the marshal is just rephrasing, but I can’t imagine that a police hater is going to use the words “police officers”. Seems like it would be more like “@#%& pigs”.
