Three-term Delaware Rep. John Carney has filed paperwork to run for governor.
In a statement Wednesday, Carney said he had planned to back the states late attorney general, Beau Biden, for governor and stay in the House. But after Biden passed away in May from brain cancer, Carney reconsidered.
Beau knew there are big challenges facing our state and he would have been the man to meet them. Like so many across our state, I wish hed had that chance, Carney said.
Yet, a season after Beaus passing, were confronted with the fact that those same challenges Beau was ready to face still loom large along our states horizon. And someone has to step up to meet them.
Carney said he does not plan to start actively campaigning until next year. But establishing a campaign committee allows him to begin raising money for his gubernatorial bid.
This will be Carneys second gubernatorial bid. He lost the 2008 primary to now-Gov. Jack Markell, who is term-limited and has said he will support Carneys campaign. Sen. Tom Carper put out a statement Wednesday afternoon endorsing Carneys candidacy. And Carney told the Delaware News Journal that Vice President Biden had encouraged him to run.

Someome, please, buy Christine O’Donnell a one-way ticket to a tropical island paradise in another country.
IMHO, we could win this seat under the right combination of circumstances.
Christine would have won had not Rove and the GOPe not sabotaged her.
Oh Great. Another Obama lapdog slinking back from DC to continue the Delaware Decline.
Wilmington is a toilet.
Aside from Monkeytown and its vicinity the rest of the state is quite nice, even Dover. Pity that the good people get outvoted by Delaware’s ‘Detroit’.
What does the article and Carney’s bid have to do with Christine O’Donnell? Just another excuse to pile on like they did with Sarah Palin? For all the digs at Christine O’Donnell, perhaps one should know what happened to defeat her.
GOPEE VOTED FOR A SELF-AVOWED MARXIST RATHER THAN HAVE SOMEONE THEY DID NOT PICK WIN THE SEAT.
The day after her primary win, I called the state HQ in Wilmington to offer help (I had already worked on her primary campaign). The response I got was as if I wee a black man at a KKK rally. During the fall campaign, the O’Donnell campaign was not allowed to use party HQ or staff; HER rented office was plastered with other GOPee candidates; not a single GOPee stood up to support her; etc. etc.
Unless every Democrat and GOPee in DE is transported to the 99th dimension, no Conservative will ever win.
She was a lousy candidate with a goofy past. A conservative needs to be pristine to win in a state like Delaware.
DE could use a Republican Governor too.
State Senator Colin Bonini is a possible GOP candidate for that.
Her opponent was a self-avowed Marxist, who could not name the five freedoms in the First Amendment: Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly and Redress. She was the one that got laughed at by law students.
If you are a Democrat in Delaware running for office, you can fornicate with an animal in broad daylight and STILL get elected. A pristine Conservative, no matter how good, will never win in Delaware because the Whigs won’t allow it.
I lived in Wilmington for 15 years, and went to high school where Mrs. Biden taught one year. After they closed Wilmington and Claymont high schools, they bused in filth and destroyed the suburban high schools. I guess that’s why there are so many good private schools. (Sales, Tower Hill, St. Mark’s, Padua, Ursuline, Friends, ...)
Pretty much everyone I know went to the other side of the C&D canal to escape the filth.
I went bull riding in Georgetown...once.
O’Donnell did her part in stopping Mike Castle, the leftist party-killing phony.
Unfortunately, DE hasn’t elected a Republican Governor since 1988 (Castle) and I’m not sanguine on the chances of reclaiming the House seat (unless it was merged with the Eastern Shore of MD so as to outvote Wilmington).
To the point, DE shouldn’t even be a state any more than DC should. If 3 counties overwhelmed by 1 Democrat cesspool county can be a state, why not any other grouping of counties that add up to 3/4ths of a million people ?
