Current DuPage County Board member and former Elmhurst mayor Peter DiCianni will run in the Republican primary for the District 8 congressional seat.
DiCianni announced his campaign Sept. 13 moments before the Talkie Trot, a local event he and his wife, Rose, have hosted for the last eight years to raise awareness for autism.
DiCianni will run for the seat that will be vacated by U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Illinois, when she makes a bid for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Illinois.
Currently, DiCianni is the chairman of the Illinois Autism Task Force. Since 2008, DiCianni has fought to have insurance carriers cover treatment costs for those diagnosed with autism, according to a campaign news release.
For him, this particular cause is a personal one, as he was inspired to fight for his daughter Brianna who was uncovered by his own insurance carrier for her diagnosis and treatment, the release stated. Now, Brianna's Law is present in 38 states.
DiCianni will run against Andrew Straw, a disability rights lawyer and advocate.
Three Democrats, including Villa Park Village President Deb Bullwinkel, businessman Raja Krishnamoorthi and state Sen. Michael Noland, D-Elgin, have announced their bids for their party's nomination in the 8th District.

This is a solidly DemocRAT district (Tammy Duckworth is the incumbent), but DiCianni seems like a solid candidate and he’s won elections before. So I wouldn’t write it off.
Has not always been like this.
But we did gained an interesting radio personality.
“Solidly” rat is not the right way to describe that district.
Suckworthless won by 10 points over the weak incumbent in 2012, a smaller margin than I anticipated. In 2014 she won by 12 points over a broke nobody who upset the parties’ favored choice, a rich Indian lady, who imploded (I forget why, something bizarre) during the primary.
Only 41% Romney but Obama ran ahead of normal rat %s. I assume Rauner carried the district.
We should have a legitimate shot, but it’s lean rat at least.
I’m the campaign manager of Peter’s primary opponent, Andrew Straw, a conservative who has been campaigning since June. Andrew is pro-life, pro-gun rights, and anti-illegal alien. He wants to cut the fed. income tax rates and implement a national sales tax. Please read his site, www.strawforcongress.com.
