L.A. Touts Itself as "Northern Capital of Latin America" for 2024 Olympic Bid

The International Olympic Committee just got an eyeful of the City of Angels.

Los Angeles is amazing and diverse. That is the message in a new promotional video released Monday by Los Angeles' 2024 Olympic bid organizers.

In the video, which is a little longer than a minute, L.A. is called the "western capital of the U.S., the northern capital of Latin America and the eastern capital of the Pacific Rim." All that is accompanied with amazing visuals of some of the city's most iconic sites.

"Hosting the Games in Los Angeles would give our city the chance to show the world how much has changed in 40 years," Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement on the LA24 bid committee's website. "This bid is a bold vision for an innovative, sustainable and inspiring Los Angeles 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games that will benefit our community, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Movement."

If LA gets it, get ready for “Caitlyn” to light the Olympic Flame.

LA is none of those things:

It is the capital of the Third World.

I bet this is horrible PR on many different levels. It grates on Americans for all the reasons mentioned in this thread. But I also bet it grates on Latin Americans because its arrogant for LA to assume its a Latin American capital. Its still a Yankee city presuming to speak for Latinos.

It is cheaper for Mexico to send their criminal riff-raff to LA than to keep them in prison.

with all of the “panic mongering” about the Pope’s visit to DC next week and the gridlock that is expected to bring; I say “let LA have the 2024 Olympics” because if the Pope will cause 3 days of traffic stand still, just think what 2-3 weeks of olympics will do to the DC area.
