Refugees will begin moving into Berlin’s disused Tempelhof Airport “in the next few days,” Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, told broadcaster RBB.

As the former airport winds down after last weekend’s Lollapalooza festival, 800 refugees are set to move into one of the former hangars. […]

The eventual aim is to transform two of the former hangars into accommodation blocks, Berliner Morgenpost reports. …

That will make it convenient when they finally decide to load them into cargo planes and deport them.

Well, that’s one way to raze those old buildings.

That’s what I was thinking. They need to go back where they came from....unless they’re Christian. But given that Muslims don’t mind lying it could be tricky to tell.

I liked that airport. It had the feel of an old city center train station or an airport in a 1940’s Humphrey Bogart movie. Like all the passengers should have been in dresses, hats, suits, and fedoras.

I stayed there twice (1979 & 1980) in the officers’ transient quarters when visiting Berlin. It was a great place to tour Berlin from, using the U-Bahn. My wife and I used the Berlin troop train to get there from Frankfurt.

I truly pity the Germans. This is not going to work out well for them or any of the “euros” welcoming the hordes of people so unlike the basic German/European stock. I shudder to think what will happen when these people are blamed for the ills of Europe.

I am trying to identify the plane on the picture of your fathers battalion. I know it is a DC-2, but I try to find the registration (for an historic article about planes captured early in the war by the Germans).

I can no longer post photos from Photobucket as they wanted to start charging. I will probably eventually get another site but for right now can’t post photos.

If you want I will try to look up some of the photos and see if I can see any numbers. If so I will give you the info.

We had a unit there (the 690th ESG) I helped close. Spent many a night in the Bowling alley on the 5th (?) floor drinking Kindle Bier!

I spent several days & nights there when visiting Berlin from W. Germany. We stayed in the transient officer billeting area and toured the city via bus & U-bahn. Our best find during that visit was the original King Tut exhibit tour. It’s just sad what Merkel has allowed to happen to Germany.

The 208th Engineer Combat Battalion entered Berlin fairly early as there was still random incidents taking place. Daddy actually saw Russians throwing Hitler Youth from the top of a bldg.

The Battalion was ended and sent home in November 1945. I found several more photos but none that would help identify that plane.

There is one with their C.O., Lt. Col. Leslie O. Scott, playing on an FW-190 which appears intact.
