I would suggest that the principle is take the money and run or perhaps don’t look a gift horse in the mouth

Other depratments at Yale means other buildings, they even have a whole bunch of separate little colleges, several buildings on a block around a common courtyard kind of area with buildings and big-ass walls around them. Yale’s endowment is so huge, they could stop charging tuition, never take in another dime, keep building new stuff at the current rate and the pot would still continue to grow.

I’ve spent many days on that campus. Sharing with departments is more of an “accounting” term rather than physically close.

Or tou transfer old assets to their department, charge them off the $10M, then spend the “gain” on new equipment for them.

There are plenty of ways to screw the donor on this.
