Wallis was in SDS in college. Graduated from Trinity Evangelical Seminary in Chicago area. He does mix liberation theology with Bible.
During his seminary years he headed a publication called:The Post American...that should give you a clue as to his politics way back in the mid 1970’s...it was from there he went on to start the Sojourner organization.

At the time it was a good way to avoid the draft. It was also a good way to obtain a job that gave you standing to promulgate leftist trash and did not require too much work. (Not much work for a leftist agitator, it generally is work, of course, for a real pastor or preacher.)
