Very true, though I’m not optimistic in seeing any significant number of blacks vote for anything but more socialism at this point. Many have been so thoroughly ingrained with a nanny-state mentality that it would be an enormous obstacle to overcome.

Not only are many poorly educated; on top of that, without government employment their unemployment rate would be astronomical (as if it wasn’t high enough already). I’ve worked with professional blacks that were convinced that without the threat of lawsuits, nobody would ever voluntarily hire them - and these were educated blacks.

This woman is secretary of the Democratic National Committee and a vice president of the U. S. Conference of Mayors.

The dem machine will take care of her.

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2015/07/01/former-baltimore-mayor-sheila-dixon-announces-she-will-run-again-in-2016/

The current mayor was appointed to fill the vacancy when the former Mayor Sheila Dixon was indicted on 12 counts. She got a plea deal that required she not run again for five yrs., which is about up. Dixon’s running and polls show her way ahead. In Baltimore, stealing gift cards donated to poor kids apparently isn’t a disqualifier.

I liked Gov/Mayor McKelding. Met him when he dedicated a new wing to our school, Elementary School #64, back in 1955 or 56.

He was a good man who served the people of Maryland, esp. Baltimore, very well. Desegregation took place during his term as governor and we had no riots in Baltimore, which was till a southern-lite city back then.

It was when Nancy Pelosi’s half-wit brother Tommy D’Alessandro II or III took over in the mid-60’s that everything went down the crapper. (His father had been a mayor too, probably the late 50’s/early 60’s as I recall, perhaps with Grady inbetween.).

Tommy Jr. let the rioters burn out the small Jewish businesses in East Baltimore (my old area), and some other places, but the Mafia passed the word to the blacks that if they hit Italian places, they would be killed. With one exception, they didn’t get hit, and the rioters apologized for it days later.

Donald Schaeffer definitely saved Baltimore from economic collapse, but his successors, O’Malley and Dixon and Black-Rawlings, turned it into a black economic sewer for the most part. The city is still reaping the results of their collective failures.

Mayor Rawlings may get a job with the Democrat Party or one of its front groups, eventually running for Rep. Elijah Cummings seat in Congress when he either croaks or has a stroke due to his vile actions (I’ll take either, right now). Or she will become another leftist professor at Morgan State University, long a center of Marxist education for the black students who go there.

Oh, by the way, John Lindsay was a “little” mobbed up with Tough Tony Anastasio’s son-in-law, Tony Scotto, head of the NY ILA (International Longshoremens’ Association. So was Mayor Wagner and their successors.

I was writing stories on this in the 1970’s, long before I was detailed to an Organized Crime Task Force out of New York that involved LIUNA, the Teamsters, and other labor unions. LIUNA gave at least $10 million dollars in campaign and Hillary/Democrat Party organizations and causes while it was under investigation, with over 200 indictments against them being pushed aside by Att. Gen. Janet Reno in order to let the union clean themselves up.

Byron York wrote a great piece on the Clintons’ Mob Friends n the April 1977 issue of “American Spectator” magazine (It might be on the internet. Read it and wipe.

Massive corruption and incompetence is endemic in the major US cities controlled by Democrats, black and white. Just look at Cleveland over the decades; Detroit (run by the Communist Coleman Young and a red dominated City Council, of which Sen. Carl Levin was one a member and head of); Houston; New York City under Dinkins; Philadelphia; Camden; Newark; St. Louis, etc.

Well, I hope that Rawlings goes to jail but I want DA Mosby to be her cellmate, for about 15 years. That would be what a call a real “start” to cleaning up dear old Baltimore.

As history tells us (think Marion Barry) the black population in America uses a completely different metric to vote with. Being a convicted heroin addict or a thief caught red handed is NOT a disqualifier to them like it would be for pretty much any other race or nationality.

Until that metric changes; I don’t hold out much hope for the heavily black populated towns and cities. They have to want something better for things to change for the better.

Thanks for the post. It was not an enviable position for almost anyone who served as a large city Mayor from the period between 1964/65-1972 when all hell broke loose. The utter failures of “Great Society”, urban decay, outmigration of Whites to newer housing in the suburbs, forced busing, forced integration, and the radicalization of the Black community (along with the explosion in crime and illegitimacy with the diminishment of Black fatherhood as a part of the welfare state plan).

I wasn’t alive for that, but my life was already greatly affected by it as my parents (and I in utero) were part of the million-person exodus out of NYC between 1965-1980, helped in no small part due to the incompetence of John Lindsay.

Mayor McKeldin occupied that 1963-1967 period and chose not to run again at a time when he would’ve had to employ harder tactics, lest the city descend into chaos. 1968 was probably the worst year of the period. Tommy D’Alesandro, III was only a year into his term when the $hit hit the fan. His and Nancy’s father, Tommy Jr., served after McKeldin’s 1st term (1943-47) from 1947-1959 (Tommy Jr. had been in Congress since 1939). He ran for the Senate in 1958 and narrowly lost to incumbent John Marshall Butler, the most Conservative GOP Senator from the 20th century to date (one of the few seats the GOP kept that year, the worst Republican year for losses in the Senate since the 17th Amendment was passed). 4 months after the election, he was unseated in the Dem primary for a 4th term by Harold Grady.

Curiously, Grady obliterated McKeldin for Mayor barely 4 months after he left office as Governor by a jaw-dropping 68-32% margin. That McKeldin was able to make a comeback 4 years later, narrowly beating Philip Goodwin, whom had only replaced Grady as Mayor for a few months in 1962/63 was pretty incredible.

Support for the Republican Party had utterly collapsed in Baltimore in a short period. When McKeldin left in 1967, the Republican candidate got just 17% of the vote against Tommy the 3rd, who got an astonishing 83%. Even worse in 1971 when Schaefer got 87%+ against the hapless perennial GOP candidate, Dr. Ross Z. Pierpont (who got all of 12.77%).

At the time, too, was when Spiro Agnew moved up from being a Ted McKeldin left-wing Republican as County Executive in Balto County to Governor in Nov 1966, and was forced to take a strong-handed approach to the cultural/societal breakdown in the city, which pushed him to the right. One of those mugged-by-reality types.

Curiously, over in neighboring Delaware where the left-wing Republican Russell Peterson won the Governor’s race in 1968, he took a hands-off approach to rioting in Wilmington. He expected to handily get the Black vote in 1972 for being so “tolerant.” He ended up losing to the Democrat, Sherman Tribbitt, who got an odd coalition of angry White Conservatives and the (now knee-jerk) Black Dem vote. Unfortunately, because of the spillover, it also carried Joe Biden over a good Conservative Republican Senator, J. Caleb Boggs in that same election (even as Nixon won in a landslide). Peterson was enraged that all that pandering he did to Blacks didn’t get him anything. The ministers told him their parishioners wouldn’t vote for him because he wasn’t a Democrat.

Probably the most famous member of my family ran St. Louis as Mayor a century ago (from 1913-1925), but he was a Republican and in those days, people were still moving to the city en masse (now it has only 1/3rd of the population it once had, close to a million at its peak, now in the 300k range). He was regarded as the best (and until the current Mayor broke his record) and longest serving Mayor in the city’s history. He couldn’t get elected there today despite all he did for it (civic projects, et al). He wouldn’t even recognize what they’ve done to the city (urban renewal having laid to waste huge areas of the downtown), and to add insult to injury, they bulldozed his beautiful house in what had been an exclusive neighborhood. It’s a parking lot for a funeral parlor now.

Maybe she is looking at higher things. Makes a perfect nominee of the Dems to replace the first black president.

Blacks scored 93% of their vote for Obama, so racism is alive and well in that segment.
