A Host Disparages Obama, and McCain Quickly Apologizes (2008)
New York Times ^ | February 27, 2008 | MICHAEL LUO

"CINCINNATI — Senator John McCain apologized Tuesday after a conservative radio host who helped introduce him before a rally used Senator Barack Obama’s middle name, Hussein, three times, while disparaging him."

- snip -

“It’s my understanding,” he said, “that before I came in here a person who was on the program before I spoke made some DISPARAGING REMARKS (emphasis added) about my two colleagues in the Senate, Senator Obama and Senator Clinton. I have repeatedly stated my respect for Senator Obama and Senator Clinton, that I will treat them with respect. I will call them Senator. We will have a respectful debate, as I have said on hundreds of occasions. I regret any comments that may have been made about these two individuals who are honorable Americans.”

I thought this refresher may help the Republican Elites understand the ANGER that we conservatives have towards them. The "Disparaging Remarks" McCain is referring to here is Obama's middle name - that was it.

Bill Cunningham, a conservative talk show host in Cincinnati, was attempting to fire up the crowd to support McCain (a very tall order, by the way), and actually did a good job. Then McCain comes out an immediately BASHES Cunningham, virtually calling him a racist and a sexist, and by extension, everyone that cheered Mr. Cunningham's comments. Nice way to motivate people to work the phones and press the flesh. Rush played this clip back then...it was painful for him, but he wanted his listeners to know what McCain thought of them.

This was the man (McCain) that the REPUBLICAN ELITES dumped on us in 2008 to fight Obama. Does anyone doubt that Jeb would do exactly the same, in a similar situation? Not me.

So, to the people running the Republican Party, WE ARE SICK OF THESE CANDIDATES - it is our turn now, and so far that means Trump. Sorry.

McCain’s timidity is ingrained. The PC police have totally whipped him.

McCain Said “we had nothing to fear” from Obama.

And the loser POS says Trump is “divisive.”

How much more “divisive” can you be by losing over 10 million votes in your presidential run?

McCain did everything he could do to reach out to moderates, independents and Democrats and he lost big.

How has crossing the aisle worked out for McCain?

“How has crossing the aisle worked out for McCain?”

Worked fine for him - he’ll live a very nice retirement, just DESTROYED the country in the process.

No wonder McInsane lost.

Your link displays the contrasts between the how the gutless McCain DEFENDED his opponent (Obama) from any disparagement and how Trump handles himself in similar circumstances.

This disparity goes a long way to explain why McCain LOST in 2008 and why Trump (and/or Cruz) will win in 2016.

Thanks...that was EXACTLY what I was trying to get at.

We run people, like McCain (and Bush-43, for that matter) that are hell-bent on establishing a “new tone”, and then get TOTALLY TRASHED by the Dems, and instead of reacting in kind, they respond by saying something like: “I’m disappointed that my opponent called me a wife-killer. I would prefer the campaign to be directed a bit more towards the issues.”

That is not how to WIN...which begs the question that I’ve been asking with this posting and an earlier posting today - do the Republican Elites even want to win?

This is a good illustration of why we didn’t elect him, and why we won’t elect people like him. We don’t need an apologist-in-chief.

Hussein and his media lackeys refused to even say his middle name during the 2008 campaign. But he sure said it loud and clear on inauguration day.

Yep, I was thinking the same. He made DAMN SURE that EVERYONE in the country knew his middle name, as he took office.

McCain has got to be the WORST Republican presidential candidate (outside maybe Bob Dole) in my lifetime. The only thing he had going for him was picking Sarah Palin for his running mate. She is the only reason I voted for him. He was a terrible pick for the GOP.

McCain sticking up for the campaign opposition, Obama and Clinton, was disgusting. Looking to McCain for presidential-running advice is tantamount to asking an unemployed, homeless person for advice of what clothes wardrobe you should wear to work everyday. Why is this loser still around? Arizona needs to put this wanna-be democRAT out to pasture in the next election.

It’s unfortunate he didn’t campaign for himself as strongly as he campaigned for his opponent.

No one had/has the guts to call Obama out- vet him by pointing out that:
>he was raised and mentored by Muslims and Communists
>paid millions to have his records sealed
>Was once a member of a Socialist party
>Admitted he was born in Kenya
>his books contained racist slurs against whites as well as admiration for Muslims etc, etc

a white candidate with these known facts about his life would not only have been kicked out, but crucified.
