The Los Angeles Police Department will use 100 of the vehicles, while the fire department, general services and water and power department will lease the remaining 60. More than 100 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will also be acquired.
Garcetti says the new vehicles will make Los Angeles home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric cars in the country.

That will work out great next time SoCal has rolling brownouts.
To: BenLurkin
And when California starts having brown outs this summer and has to pay spot peak prices for relief because of the state anti carbon energy policies, how much will it cost the taxpayers to keep these cars on the road?

Imagine how dismal electric vehicle sales would be if not for local, state and federal purchases.

And the public is saving how... Oh, right, these ideas are never about saving the public money, only about putting forward an agenda. Whoopie, cop cars become a quarter million each instead of just 200k each.

The article says they're plug in hybrids then later pure electric battery vehicles. Which is it?

Somehow, I can’t see a fleet of these things chasing Jake and Elwood’s 1974 Dodge Monaco down the highway (”It’s got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it’s got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It’s a model made before catalytic converters so it’ll run good on regular gas.’)

This probably won’t be one of their “pursuit” cars.
I lease a LEAF, and it has a 110 mile range. Even blowing it out at 85 mph for extended periods of time on the interstate doesn’t drain the battery as much as having the heater/AC on full blast.
Atlanta PD has a few of them and they love them.
