New Poll: Americans Demand Congressional Vote on Iran Deal; Majority Opposes Presidential Veto

New York – – – – – – As Congress reconvenes from its summer recess their first order of business will be the most important security legislation of the 21st Century – the agreement with Iran on its nuclear program. Already the agreement has a majority of both the Senate and the House in opposition. The President is threatening to veto a Congressional resolution rejecting it. Some of the President’s supporters are now threatening a filibuster in the Senate to protect their re-election chances and the President because Congress would never directly debate or vote on the agreement. Against this backdrop, a new poll finds that more than two thirds of Americans demand Congress to vote on the deal, and a majority opposes a presidential veto.

“This poll underscores what we’re already seeing in the presidential race.” says GOP pollster John McLaughlin. “Americans are angry about Washington. They see it as dishonest and corrupt. Now our President wants to allow the most important security agreement in our lifetime to go into effect without a majority vote of Congress. If even a portion of the voters who told us they would never again vote for a Senator or Congressman who supported this deal stick to that view, there will be severe retribution in November 2016 and 2018. They don’t trust Iran and are going to hold their representatives accountable for American security.”

The survey, conducted jointly by Caddell Associates and McLaughlin & Associates on September 2nd and 3rd, also found that 78 percent wanted Congress to oppose the deal on the grounds that it lifts sanctions and would provide Iran with $100 billion that it can use to finance terror activities. Additionally:

*69% of all voters believe that Congress should be required to vote on the Iran deal.

*Only 34% of Americans would support a presidential veto if Congress votes against the deal.

*56% support a Congressional override if the president does veto the deal, including 25% of Democrats.

*78% say their Congressman and Senators should oppose the Iran deal because it lifts sanctions and gives Iran $100 billion to finance terror.”

*88% say Congress should not approve a deal that let’s Iran inspect its own nuclear sites.

*65% say that it’s so important to vote on this agreement that if their Senators tried to stop a vote in Congress they would never vote for them again.

*54% say if their Senators or Congressman support they deal, they’re never voting for them again.

“These results provide more evidence that 2016 isn’t going to be a typical election cycle, and should be sober reading for Democrats who are prepared to attempt to shutdown a vote,” said Democrat pollster and strategist Pat Caddell.

The attached survey was conducted on behalf of Secure America Now, and the results and analysis can be viewed at: http://www.secureamericanow.org/blog_national_security_poll_results

Secure America Now is a nonpartisan organization giving voice to millions of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, conservatives and liberals who share a common concern about American security and liberty. The group’s concerns have led them to create an organization that allows the American people to influence American security and foreign policy.

With the Senate unable to break a filibuster to even allow a vote of approval or disapproval, it is already a done deal in the eyes of the GOPe leadership. Except for pandering purposes why should the hose even have a vote? American citizen's opinions being damned of course,

Obama made the deal with Iran and if Congress votes it down he can veto? Boehner and McConnell have to go.

Republican senators had better listen up as well. 2016 is a pivotal year for them. It can go for them, or against them in a big way.

Poor Obama. He has to choose between his duty to the American public and Muhammad.

He picks Muhammad. No surprise.

Boehner and McConnell have to go.

***************
We need to flood the RNC, Republican senators and Republican reps with calls and tell them this. No votes for any Republican UNTIL Boehner and McConnell ARE GONE.

I agree. America should DEMAND that it not be voted on and not even be considered.

What Americans want is IRRELEVANT to the Feds. The Federal government has been subverted by international Marxists, who are working to bring down the last opposition to world tyrannical government, which is the US of A. Iran will finish the job al Qaeda started 14 years ago, but this time with nuclear fire. New York City and Washington DC will burn, the economy will collapse, and world government will be on the march. Liberty! Equality! Fraternity! Bullcrap.

So, they don’t care what the peasants think. They’ll only care when we drag them from their cozy offices and out into the streets. Voting is pointless.

This can be stopped with a little bit of legislative maneuvering and some testosterone.

All that Mitch McConnell has to do is to take yesterday’s House resolution and run with it - to state in unequivocal terms that “this is a treaty, calling a pig a duck doesn’t make it a duck” and to schedule a vote in the full Senate. Do you think that Harry Reid would hesitate for a second to do that if the shoe was on the other foot?

But no, McConnell has no balls, no vision and no honesty. He was elected on the promise of opposing Obama...and I have yet to see meaningful opposition. With friends like him and Corker, who needs enemies?

Yes, but the current regime of Obama and McConnell don’t give a rats ass what the polls or the American public want.

The Senate GOPe has the most to loose in next election. They could easily give it back to the Dems with the loose cannon Durbin as Majority Leader. He is worse than Reid, as if that’s possible.

If 69% of Americans were hollering in the streets outside govt offices, maybe their opinions would matter.

we need to tell them we have seen absolutely no reason to work/donate/volunteer/vote to get both houses of Congress in R control. At least so far in 2015 R control has been almost meaningless and they don’t have much time to change that. Replacing Boehner and McConnell will not necessarily change anything. We need real action not simply changing leadership.

I really don’t think my life (or happiness with DC) will change much if we keep Rs in control or get Reid/Pelosi back with another helping of Obamacare and surrender to North Korea or whatever else may be on their agenda.

I’m probably better off spending my time learning Spanish and memorizing key passages from the Koran (to get past checkpoints in the US) than wasting any time getting Rs into congress.

This filibuster crap has gone on long enough — on both sides. It’s time to make them do what they are supposed to do: Talk and talk and hold up the proceedings until one side or the other gives in. They treat this thing like they’re calling “SHOTGUN” before getting into a car. Just saying the word “Filibuster” seems to be all they need to do.

God, where did we lose control as a people???

Those 34% are NOT Americans
