New York state will gradually raise the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15 an hourthe first time any state has set the minimum that high.
Gov. Andrew Cuomos administration formally approved the increase Thursday, a move the Democratic governor announced at a labor rally with Vice President Joe Biden. Cuomo said he would work to pass legislation setting a $15 minimum for all industries, a promise that comes as more and more cities around the country move toward a $15 minimum wage.
Every working man and woman in the state of New York deserves $15 an hour, the governor told the enthusiastic crowd of union members. Were not going to stop until we get it done.
Biden predicted the $15 wage for fast-food workers would galvanize efforts across the country.
Youre going to make every single governor in every single state in America look at themselves, he said at the rally in New York City. Its going to have a profound impact.
He said he and President Barack Obama remain committed to raising the federal minimum wage to $12 an hour.

more automation and robotics (mostly from China)
less American jobs
congratulations, NY!
:(
If someone flipping burgers is going to be getting $15 an hour, then I deserve to make $60,000 a year.
Now the lawyers will get rich arguing what “fast food” is...
The right minimum wage, an op-ed in the NY Slime. I guess New Yorkers don’t even read their own newspaper.

Like Obamacare—fast food: women and children hit hardest.
First 15. As soon as they get that they’ll want 20 or 25. It’ll never stop.
Domo origato mr roboto. (sp. I don’t have the album to check the lyrics) Now, the guy that fixes the robo servers, probably $25/hr. No calling in sick. No NOT showing up for your shift. No crappy attitudes. (at least for the near term)
Can robots spit? (special sauce!?)
Welcome to McJoblessness, dumbasses.
You want fries with that $19.49 burger.
So 1/3 of the workers will get their walking papers.
Try 2/3.
The good news is that we’ll have a new industry in creating purchasing kiosks and robotic food preparation units! All jobs for which none of these dumbasses will qualify!
They’ll become part of the 94MM Americans “not in the labor force” swelling the ranks to over 100MM, all demanding gubbermint handouts!
Cloward and Piven, baby!
Only the owner and his two best workers will be cooking and taking cash. The rest will get laid off.
Wawa is the model. Punch in what you want in the computer, pick it up a minute to later, lay off five people.
Good point. So now what happens to everyone who is already getting paid $15 an hour because they worked their way up to it?
Hello, fast food service robots!!!
Maybe Richard Trumka can unionize them.
Just fast food workers? Seems like he is screwing other workers in low-paying jobs.
Maybe picking lettuce will start looking like a good job.
They need a raise.
