:: What do we as a society do ::
And, being a journalist, Khary Penebaker is the all-powerful conscience of society.
That's debatable.
As I know all too well. My father owned a rifle. He tried knocking himself out before jumping into the water, slitting his wrists, and finally killed himself with the exhaust from his car.
Never touched the rifle. Maybe because his daddy had given it to him when he was a boy.
And yet in reality, the US would be about average in terms of suicides for a European country...and far, far lower than Japan, which has 70 suicides in an average day and a near total gun ban.

Most of the replies discussed the tragedy of suicide & dismissed the notion that gun control can prevent it.
Wisconsin’s not as blue a state as some think.
The Japanese should cordon off Mount Fuji, since a huge number of suicides take place on its slopes. Climbers have to beware of stumbling upon skeletal remains.
No guns are ever involved.
So, the woman’s suicide was all about him.
*******************************************************************
It’s understandable that a child might think that way but most children gain understanding as they grow up. This 37 year old man, still thinking like a child, blames the gun.
I say we fill it in.
To me the biggest question is:
Why did your grandfather give his daughter a gun if he knew she was depressed and suicidal. Sounds like pure evil to me.
A huge proportion of “gun violence” is committed by Democrats in Democrat cities or by isolated Democrats elsewhere in the Free States. In facts, if you subtracted murders in Democrat cities from statistics for the rest of the United States, we’d have one of the lowest murder rates in the world. Commonsense gun control should mean confiscating guns from Democrats, shouldn’t it?
What do we as a society do to prevent 58 Americans from commiting suicide with a gun every day?
The answer is: nothing.
Because if those 58 Americans who suicide each day by gun, do not have guns(BTW the other 40 plus each day suicide by other means) they will use other means. No guns does not mean less suicide. Just different suicide.
You can blame the gun all you want. Mom was depressed and killed herself. And that means she was not thinking clearly. Poor soul.
So...this dork would have felt better about it had his mother used a rope?
The correlative factor in violent deaths is not “guns”.
(Hint: It’s a cultural proclivity.)
Would it have made you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outa windas?
Because Khary, idiots like you refuse to punish CRIMINALS.
You have some warped view that disarming law abiding citizens will slow gun crimes.
Evidence proves the opposite.
Yeah. There has to be something which has her bd on it. What school did she attend? There are plenty of genealogy sites which have that info. How about an obit? The funeral home? Did she have siblings? How about social security birth/death sites. Some sites even have the SS number.
A lot of people that commit suicide don’t want people to know they committed suicide so they have car wrecks.
One of my interests is genealogy. I have that kind of info on ancestors back to the 1400/1500’s. It is not hard to find. You just have to look. I have even found info by just typing in the name of the person. I do have one family which I think must have come from Mars because we can not find any info earlier than the early 1800’s. Some in the family changed the spelling back then which does not help matters.
What causes the high suicide rate?
Structure and order and support prevents suicide as it creates a feeling of security and hope while chaos, abandonment and rejection creates hopelessness.
In order to examine this more carefully one only needs to look at the suicide rates in the military prior to Obama taking office. The suicide rate in the military prior to Obama taking office was half of the same age group in the general population. After Obama took office the suicide rate in the military doubled to more closely resemble that of the same age group in the general population.
One of the major factors was the breakdown in the command structure and the change in the rules of engagement. Under Obama, soldiers were court martialed for returning fire and given medals for “Restraint of Fire.” Military leaders felt hopeless to protect the men under their command while at the same time new officers entering became more politically correct and no longer were combat experienced. The old experienced leaders jumped ship and the new ones were incompetent.
The increase in PTSD and other psychological disorders also increased under Obama. What did he do?
Obama decreased structure and order and tried to create a false hope in himself. Nothing creates depression quicker than the realization that our hope was based upon false assumptions. That is what is happening right now in our country and our economic system.
We as a country are about to enter a period of great psychological depression. What is the alternative to turning inward and experiencing depression? Getting angry. That is what you are seeing happen in the “black lives matter groups” as well as the “Trump supporters.”
