One’s own life is between an individual and his/her God or god.

So long as it hurts no one else, has proper safeguards to not be urged, the State should keep its ham hands off an adult making the most personal decision he/she can make.

This is my last post on the matter since I know many Nanny-Staters want to impose yourself on innocent people in agony.

I completely agree, although many freepers wont.

Any doctor that participates in an assisted suicide is violating their Hippocratic Oath and guilty of homicide.

Individuals have been able to commit suicide long before the first ever assisted suicide bill was passed. Doctors have winked their eyes and prescribed drugs necessary for patients to commit suicide for just as long (under the aegis of "palliative care")

So long as it hurts no one else…

To claim that it hurts no one else is highly unlikely. A person would have to be a true loner for that to even be even likely true.

has proper safeguards to not be urged…

When legalized, families, healthcare providers, and bureaucrats (think Medicare, VA) will start offering it as an option. How long will it be until that option will be pushed as the "selfless" option? Countries that had "assisted suicide" as an option early on now have legalized euthanasia. For example, in the UK, a dying patient can be placed (without appeal) on the so-called "Liverpool Care Pathway" [look it up if not familiar with it]

the State should keep its ham hands off an adult making

Agreed. The State should keep its ham hands off of it. The State sanctioning it is hardly keeping its ham hands off of this decision.

God alone has the right to give or take a life.

“Over 30% of Euthanasia Cases in Belgian Region Did Not Give Consent: Study”

“In one region of Belgium, over 30 percent of reported euthanasia cases were carried out without the consent of the patient, a study has found. At the same time, the overall number of official reported deaths by euthanasia are dramatically increasing in the country since the practice was legalized in 2002, with 40 per cent more cases reported for 2009 than the previous year.

A team of Belgian and Dutch end-of-life researchers circulated a questionnaire to physicians who signed death certificates of patients who died in the Belgian region of Flanders between June and November 2007. The study showed that of the 208 reported Flemish deaths involving the use of “life-ending drugs,” 142 were killed with “an explicit patient request,” and 66 “were without an explicit request.”..”
