Jeb Bush is reaching out to Asia for campaign donations

He’s not leading in the polls, but he is leading in donations.

Jeb Bush is making fundraising calls to Americans living in China, the Financial Times reports.

He is hosting a fundraising event in Hong Kong where he is expected to speak to supporters via video conference. Bush anticipates 40 guests to attend; at $2,700 per guest, his campaign is expected to raise around $100,000. The event is being hosted by Michael DeSombre, the Republicans Overseas global president, who helped Mitt Romney raise $2 million in Asia during his 2012 campaign.

The group caters to the 8.7 million Americans living overseas. DeSombre says, “If they were a state, they would be the 13th biggest by population, but historically they have not had a voice because many do not vote,” although they are still affected by U.S. law, including tax demands and especially foreign policy.

Bush isn’t the only candidate reaching out to overseas supporters, but he’s the only one with a huge advantage in Asia, where his father and brother, both former presidents, have already built networks he can tap into.

A Bush supporter told FT that this is just the first of many Hong Kong events the candidate will host.

Not a dime’s worth of difference between Bushes and Clintons.

Why wouldn’t they vote? They can vote absentee if they desired.

Hey Jeb,

Go to California and appeal to the Koreans

(the ones who defended their homes/businesses while everything else was burning)

Kinda looks that way. Trump can zone in on this, and I see a new zinger Instagram ad. 😊

It’s interesting the way politicians beg for money, almost as if they are prostitutes.

Another interesting fact. Over 5 or 6 weeks ago, I made a donation to Trump’s campaign. Of course I had to give my email and employer. Today, I received my first email from Trump. It listed all his campaign stops for the next week. But there was no request for donations or even a button to use if I wanted to.

Didn’t he just insult Asian “anchor babies”?

And further: No amount of money you raise is going to give you the presidency, Jeb, or even the nomination.

The way things are going for ¿Yeb?, all the money in the world isn’t going to buy him the nomination.

Not every candidate is a billionaire. It’s fine that Trump can finance his own campaign and that’s good, but it’s not a virtue necessarily.

We do not want only fabulously wealthy people running. Some people will have to ask for donations.

The dems would like to make it illegal for a presidential candidate to self-finance.

The reason why is obvious.

They want to choke off anything that can get campaign cash to republicans.

IMO there should be no laws governing campaign funding except that foreign contributions should be a felony and union dues cannot be donated.

Look at the way Trump is doing it. Those YouTube videos and facebook postings must cost him next to nothing. It’s mostly his money, so he’s using it wisely.....and providing terrific entertainment for the nation as he plays Presidential Apprentice.

I agree, and Trump people need to be careful beating non supporters on the head with this.

It is MY right, guaranteed by the 1st Amendment to donate to the candidate of my choice, as a means of free speech.

The Founding Fathers preferred everyday working Americans to serve, and go home and live under the laws they passed.
