A Texas couple was reunited with their biological son late Monday after DNA tests confirmed that the child had been switched with another baby soon after he was born in an El Salvador hospital.

Richard Cushworth and Mercedes Casanellas feared their child could have been sold to human traffickers after they realized that the child they had been given to bring home to Dallas had darker skin.

Mercedes Casanellas, a native of El Salvador, gave birth to a baby boy in her home country back in May. Pictures released by the family showed her cuddling a light-skinned baby who was named Jacob. However, when Casanellas was released from the hospital after a day-and-a-half, she was given a different baby.

Glad it turned out well.

Why did they go to El Salvador to give birth? Reverse anchor baby?

The parents are obviously racist for not supporting intra-family diversity.

Hours later, El Salvador's attorney general said the couple's real son had been found. Officials said they were working to reunite the baby given to Casanalles by the hospital with his biological mother as well.

There's a lot of story not being told, here.

No, because she wanted to give birth in her own country and she is not an illegal in case you are wondering. The baby might still be a US Citizen depending if they register the birth with the US Consulate in El Salvator

I wonder what binding they had with the darker skinned baby, and I wonder what will become of him.

So what happens to the Salvadoran baby she was originally given to take home?

from the article which was posted here:

Hours later, El Salvador’s attorney general said the couple’s real son had been found. Officials said they were working to reunite the baby given to Casanalles by the hospital with his biological mother as well.

IN another article posted yesterday the couple said they would raise the baby they were given if his biological parents cannot be found.

After the DNA test confirmed the couple's fears, they returned to El Salvador. The country's authorities said that Dr. Alejandro Guidos had been taken into custody and investigators were looking into allegations that he may have operated a baby trafficking gang.

The couple were in court for Dr. Guidos' first appearance, during which he protested his innocence and was bailed. At one point, Casanalles grabbed at a sheet covering Dr Alejandro Guidos' head and shouted: "Where is my son, doctor? Where is my son?"

Hours later, El Salvador's attorney general said the couple's real son had been found. Officials said they were working to reunite the baby given to Casanalles by the hospital with his biological mother as well.

Amazing the results that can happen when the police and jail are in the face of this "doctor"

Dallas couple says newborn was switched in El Salvador

You have to read the article

The baby they were given when she checked out of the hospital

The baby she gave birth to

No, because she wanted to give birth in her own country and she is not an illegal in case you are wondering.

"Because" is usually not the whole story. Again, is this an anchor baby in reverse? IOW did she want to make sure the child had citizenship back home?

And I wasn't wondering if she is illegal.

The baby might still be a US Citizen depending if they register the birth with the US Consulate in El Salvator

Just like I did with my oldest daughter. In return she received a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of The United States of America.

Note: This is not my daughter's, but some random one floating around the web.

It’s not the core issue of the story, but where did you learn of the couple’s citizenship status? I didn’t see it in this article.

From other articles I read it appears neither parent is a US citizen. They are missionaries who were in the US on visas.

They brought me the wrong baby about 2 hours after my second daughter was born.
Now, my Jenifer was 8 lbs with black hair, but they brought in a 5 lb red head for me to nurse. I argued with the nurse
and after 1/2 hour they brought the correct baby with the apology, “do not try to nurse her as the other mother already did.” The other baby was also a Jennifer and there had been over 20 babies delivered that night and the hospital was over whelmed.
