Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz Issues Statement Supporting Kim Davis

A jailed Kentucky clerk asserts that the marriage licenses issued Friday to gay couples in Rowan County are void because she didn’t authorize them, her attorney said.

On Saturday, a white banner spray-painted with the black letters “Kim Davis POW” was placed near the entrance of the jail in Grayson, Kentucky, and a bagpipe and drum corps played “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and marched to a field across from the jail.

Protesters held up signs that read “Freedom of religion”, “Kim Davis for President”, and “Free Kim Davis!” as they were joined by Grayson Mayor George Steele.

Davis, who can not be terminated since she was elected to her position, will only be released from custody if she chooses to comply with the law, said U.S. District Judge Bunning.

Among the couples issued marriage licenses on Friday were James Yates and William Smith, who had previously been denied five times.

Couples in Rowan County were able to get marriage licenses starting Friday, issued by the deputies in Davis’ office. Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, declared: “I thank God for Kim Davis, and I hope more Americans will stand with her”.

Appearing on ABC before Kasich, Huckabee insisted that the supreme court’s ruling was not final, since Congress has not codified same-sex marriage into law.

“I believe in traditional marriage“, Kasich said.

Okeechobee County Clerk Sharon Robertson has her own religious beliefs, but says there’s a separation of mind and matter when you’re in government work.

“Her good faith belief is simply not a viable defense”, Bunning said.

Fortunately, because we are a land of laws, Clerk Davis will have her day in court and that is exactly how it should be.

Now Cruz, who took an oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution”, wants people to defy the Supreme Court’s authority? Pressure on Davis intensified after the Supreme Court on Monday decided not to grant her a reprieve.

The most surprising thing for non-Kentuckians about the embattled county clerk might be the fact that she’s a Democrat.

Her mother was the county clerk for 37 years, and Davis worked 27 years for her.

He asked Christians across the globe to spend Thursday fasting and praying for Davis, to mark “one week of unlawful tyranny”. Mr. Staver said he did not know either, but her attorneys planned to file an appeal of the contempt order later Friday.

Indeed they do. And so does the rule of law in a civil society.

“To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience,” Davis said in a statement Tuesday.

The sad thing isn’t that she is in jail, but that out of thousands of people in similar positions she is the only one who pushed back.

No one has defied the Supreme Court’s authority. They can not write state law. They can not write federal law.

Because homosexual marriage is right there in the constitution. Or maybe its the Federalist Papers, I’m not sure. But whatever.

Bingo. Ted Cruz was close to one of the best 10th amendment justices on the court.

This retarded judge (Clinton appointee) needs to be reminded that the Supreme Court once ruled against a free man and former slave Dred Scott. Lincoln defied that authority.

In Plessy vs. Ferguson the Supreme Court’s “authority” forced segregation on a private railroad.

Is that the “authority” Judge Bunning so loves? This jerk needs to be impeached. We need a strong conservative president who will appoint an AG with balls.

We need a list of jobs that christians cannot do. The requirements of the jobs are changing so christians need not apply.

There are also now private businesses that christians cannot operate unless they support homosexual lifestyles. They cannot be bakers, florists, pizza store owners e.t.c.

I have a feeling the list of professions that christians cannot keep will increase shortly.

What if a law were passed to flog Bunning for 15 minutes in a public on a daily basis?

It would lift the spirits of the oppressed, causing them to feel confidence in their society so that they will spend more and work harder thereby improving productivity and raising economic activity.

Yes that’s it, flog Bunning daily and often to improve the economy. We are after all a nation of laws so he shouldn’t object.

We know who Cruz is standing with. And we know who Trump is not standing with. And Bush. And Fiorina. And Graham. I think Walker is trying to take a stand on both sides of the issue, it’s hard to tell sometimes.

Either you are thrown in jail indefinitely, or you are fined to bankruptcy till you comply with their religion. Take your pick.

On a positive note, I guess we are better than ISIS- we don’t have beheadings for not converting to liberalism... yet.

Cruz was already on the issue of religious liberty when this happened.

Like a lot of things really.

Back in August he was calling on states to impose their own sanctions on Iran and now the Michigan and Oklahoma AGs are doing it. (Michigan already has sanctions against Iran)

SUPPORTING KIM DAVIS IS UPHOLDING THE OATH OF OFFICE EVERY ELECTED OFFICIAL TAKES FROM POTUS ON DOWN.

TO DEFEND KIM DAVIS IS TO ‘SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION’ AS IN THE FIRST AMENDMENT OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS REGARDING FREEDOM OF RELIGION.

We have a long history of conscientious objection in this country and we’ve always found ways around it without jailing people.

Now its time to remind people that we also have a conscientious objection to funding abortion too.

To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience,” Davis said in a statement Tuesday.

And to issue a marriage license which conflicts with Kentucky's statutory definition of marriage would violate Kentucky Law.

The clerks who are issuing the licenses right now have no statutory authority to do so.

Nope. George W Bush. And representatives of the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary testified before the United States Senate Committee of the Judiciary for the AMA's majority opinion that Bunning was unqualified for the position of a Federal District Court Judge. He was confirmed anyway.

The clerks who are issuing the licenses right now have no statutory authority to do so.

I don't see how Judges Kennedy and Roberts can say that Kentucky's law is invalid, and then have gubernatorial candidates, presidential candidates, and lawyers talking about how the legislature could rewrite the legislation to be in compliance, and have folks not realize there's a problem with Kentucky's current law. It doesn't pass muster.

Then there's Phyllis Schlafly's revelation about Judge Bunning, the Federal judge who threw Kim Davis in jail:

Bunning previously came to national attention when he required the students and staff of the public schools in neighboring Boyd County to attend mandatory diversity training, "a significant portion of which would be devoted to issues of sexual orientation and gender harassment." Bunning, who also ruled against a law banning partial-birth abortion, was nominated for his lifetime job at the age of 34 and was confirmed because his father was a senator, despite having inadequate legal experience and an "unqualified" rating from the American Bar Association.
