I don’t remember exactly when but Sarah Palin did want the mountain to be formally named Denali.
This has been a contentious issue for Alaskans for a long time. We have always considered the name to be Mt Denali, but a few blowhards from Ohio have always prevented Alaska from calling Denaili by its original name. While many of us disagree with Obama's heavy-handed tactics, very few Alaskans are going to complain about the mountain having its original name restored.
