John Brown was in the wrong for what he did, and I believe he knew it. But he couldn't square his manhood and his love of country with the evil of slavery, and his conscience left him no choice but to act. If we all had the fortitude to face evil so boldly, evil would hardly have a square foot of turf upon which to grow and take root.
