307,000 veterans died awaiting Veterans Affairs health care, report says

Hundreds of thousands of veterans listed in the Department of Veterans Affairs enrollment system died before their applications for care were processed, according to a report issued Wednesday.

The VA's inspector general found that out of about 800,000 records stalled in the agency's system for managing health care enrollment, there were more than 307,000 records that belonged to veterans who had died months or years in the past.

In a response to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs' request to investigate a whistleblower's allegations of mismanagement at the VA's Health Eligibility Center, the inspector general also found VA staffers incorrectly marked unprocessed applications and may have deleted 10,000 or more records in the last five years.

In one case, a veteran who applied for VA care in 1998 was placed in "pending" status for 14 years. Another veteran who passed away in 1988 was found to have an unprocessed record lingering in 2014, the investigation found.

For more than a year, CNN investigated and reported on veterans' deaths and delays at VA facilities across the country, including detailed investigations in November 2013 and January 2014 examining deaths at two VA facilities in South Carolina and Georgia.

The report released Wednesday reveals a web of complications with the VA's management of health care enrollment data, including a lack of procedures to oversee records, software glitches within the records system and inconsistency in identifying veterans who have died.

The GOP’s Boehner and McConnell belong in prison
for this.

THEY control funding and gave the
money to criminal illegals.

Since there a bunch of veterans that were DECEASED, and NOT removed from their listings, i have a question:

Veterans so identified as with ‘x%’ disability receive a monthly disability stipend.

How many of these deceased veterans that were listed, and were identified, and qualified for that stipend, and where did that money go?

Who do you think should be the first to answer for this tragedy? There maybe other casualties even republicans but who the heck shoulders the blame?
This guy is still in office spewing promises!

In the VA, we are actually seeing the consequence of a FULL GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

Now let’s ask ourselves this question — isn’t a full government run healthcare system ultimately what Obama and the Democrats want for America?

I think the answer is ‘yes’.

Imagine a VA system for 300 million Americans...

Thank you for your service to this country...(My nephews were in the Coast Guard and I can appreciate what they are doing ).

I’m glad you have the means to escape the VA system ( but how sure are we that this same system isn’t coming for everyone else eventually?).

It is lurking in the shadows. Probably metered out until an individual attains a certain age or condition and classified as “No longer useful to govt or society in general”. Treatment ends.

There’s got to be more to this...

I go to the VA and they have always been excellent. I have medicare, retirement insurance, and am a veteran. I can pretty much go anywhere I want for care and I prefer the VA.

I only signed up 5 years ago because I’ve always had insurance, but they’ve been great.

What’s the big deal? At least the VA has nicely trimmed lawns and great executive offices with nice furniture. Get your priorities straight. Anyway, the Veterans were old and sick. Always remember, Clown Prince nobama, the Mooch and their minions love Veterans and their families.

I agree, but the one thing you HAVE to do when first applying is constantly stay in touch and appeal every decision, call, write or contact your congressman, use your local VA officer. It takes a lot of work on your part.
But the service I have received at the VA in Jackson MS and other entities has been very good, never waited over 30 mins for my APPOINTMENTS,, I have never used “walk in” service.
