A package of radioactive material that was supposed to be delivered to an on-campus office at Texas A&M University has gone missing, CBS affiliate KBTX reports.

According to an internal email sent by Christopher Meyer, an assistant VP with the Office of Safety and Security, the FedEx shipment of was sent from Science Engineering and Education Company in Edina, Minnesota. The company makes radioactive material for equipment and research, KBTX reported.

In a statement to KBTX, a Texas A&M spokesperson said the school is confident the package was not received by the university's Radiation Safety Office.

"We obviously want to locate this package as quickly as possible because it does contain radioactive material, but we hasten to add it doesn't present a health threat to the community provided the contents, which are secured in a box with two layers of inner containment, are not disturbed," the statement said.

The university said it had reported the missing shipment "to all appropriate federal and state regulatory agencies."

Yeah, those idiots at FedEx lost my package of plutonium, too. I would advise NOT giving FedEx you radioactive shipment business. I have no idea were all my plutonium packages have gone.

Texas Aggies

It was probably used as seasoning in a chili cookoff and didn't even win.

Yes, but there are fairly stringent rules on packaging and paperwork.

This is the same general precaution issued in the past when some nuclear bombs have been temporarily lost.

Good afternoon. I hope you are doing well.

Did you notice that they didn't specify what type of radioactive material?

5.56mm

As long as it isn’t opened ....

Could be merely “irritating” or up to “deadly” if it is opened.
Radioactive” covers a very, very wide range of “things” from granitetop counters to Coleman lantern ceramics to gamma-ray sources.

Of course, NONE of the sources have any usable info, like what the isotope is and how much was in the shipment.

Apparently all reporters these days are idiots.

The Jihadi plan is to attach radioactive materials to bombs.

Now... how would one get small amounts of radioactive material ?
