It appears that the first 100 years of history is not benchmarked with the standards - in other words, there are no standards.
Notice the mention of common core below - those are the standards - national standards - that everyone is protesting.
From article:
http://www.argusleader.com/story/news/education/2015/08/24/history-standards-approved-despite-concerns/32269645/
There is no requirement for teaching the first 100 years of the nations history, including the Revolutionary War and the drafting of the U.S. Constitution, but the rewritten standards do give teachers a choice.
That wasnt the case in the 2006 standards, replaced by Mondays board action.
Our current history standards do not even give an option as to whether its comprehensive or modern, board President Don Kirkegaard said. Its strictly modern.

In addition to history, the revised standards also address geography, government and economics learning, from a students first day of kindergarten to the day he earns a diploma.
Under the new standards, social studies lessons will encourage more investigation and analysis, focusing on skills students will need for college and a career, such as critical thinking, problem solving and communication.

Common Core protesters also criticized the standards in a final public hearing hosted by the board. A vocal group of parents and South Dakota residents who oppose the consortium-adopted math and reading standards have also voiced their opposition to the social studies benchmarks and recently adopted science standards.
The social studies standards too closely resemble national standards, and could lead to teachers using potentially harmful or offensive material in class, they said.
Ultimately, it is our job as parents to educate our children. It seems as a society many parents have decided to have others raise their children. Daycares, full day preschools, followed by elementary schools with after school care all the way to colleges. The resources are out there to teach your children American history...so do it!!! Why rely on someone else?
This is wrong on so many levels.
The short answer is that they removed the standards that would require the history of this period to be taught.
TO ALL:
This is a direct result of top down outcome based educational standards through common core.
Reauthorization of ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act)
House and Senate bills have passed and it is in committee. We would have one opportunity to stop this.
Why we need to stop it: It pulls together many of the tyrannical pieces that Obama has imposed - see list below and check out info at the link.

School based mental health counseling basically your re-education camp (expanded to the community because of HUD) using behavioral modification techniques.
How new rules for HUD are involved
How Obamas race database is involved
How making every school all TITLE ONE (at risk students) allows them to use MEDICAID funds. In fact in the audio she mentions Obamacare funds will be used.
How all students will need an IEP (Individual Educational Plan - makes each kid special needs) to be able to attain common core outcome based objectives.
... standards that no longer require instructors to teach the first 100 years of U.S. history ...

Huge mistake ... well, I’m sure it’s deliberate by the Leftists.
One of the best books I’ve ever read is “George Washington’s Sacred Fire” by Peter A Lillback. He wrote it to refute the claims that Washington was a Deist, but the book shows what an exceptional, God-fearing man Washington was. There was also no doubt in my mind, after reading this book, that God blessed GW in his efforts to start America and how special and exceptional this country was in its founding and should still be today. The book is not required reading for school kids, but learning the history of the country’s founding and the struggles that were overcome in the 1st 100 years should be as well. BTW, the 1st 100 years includes the Civil War.
Teachers’ unions and the Dept. of education all came about in the 1960’s. That was a disastrous time for our country. My Mother, bless her heart, was so smart politically. I can remember her saying most emphatically, “This is a mistake. Teachers should not be allowed to unionize, and the education of the children should never be centered in Washington DC.”
How right she was. She was a proud Barry Goldwater fan.
new curriculum standards that no longer require instructors to teach the first 100 years of U.S. history
If this means 1776-1876, then I assume that 1492-1776 is double-dog unnecessary.
First, they change “American” history, to “United States” history to get rid of the racist “American” identity; now they are getting rid of “United States” history altogether.
Oh yes, she was so right!
I wonder if it’s even possible to undo what has been done, given how deeply entrenched the educational system has become.
Well they’re just a bunch of dead, white guys, anyway. /s
The way things are going, they may get rid of the “Washington” before they get rid of the “Redskins.”
The last thing those new standards will designed to teach is critical thinking.
I'll bet Common Core standards will begin American history around the Civil War, and then on to the erection of the Statue of Liberty. That's when the anti-Americans want to begin US history in this "nation of immigrants" where the most recent illegal arrival has just as much right to be here as the descendants of Jamestown and the Mayflower.
They did not specify the range for the “first 100 years” in the article. I used 1776 since that’s the start of the Revolution. Regardless, the kids will miss what led up to it, why people came here looking for religious freedom, taxation without representation, etc. .... all those concepts that are SO applicable today. The kids are being turned into “sheep” rather than independent thinkers, lovers of freedom of all types & opposed to oppressive government. I love the history of our country & our family has significant participation/events in coming to this country (legally) & being successful, plus in the Civil War which we value & it all is part of who we are. This has really pissed me off this morning.
I agree, kids need to learn history, all of it, and without the PC spin. It wouldn’t hurt for them to see what has happened in other countries, too. But if they must suppress the first 100 years of American history, it won’t hurt. Nothing much happened between 1492 and 1592. :-)
Since unassimilated minorities haven’t bothered learning this stuff (or English, for that matter), now nobody will learn it. This will stop Anglo students from “starting off on third base”; if they could just figure a way to get those darned parents to stop reading to their young children...
It was replaced with the Kardashian’s First 30 Years. Caitlyn was a founding father, or mother, or something, right? And America was founded on islam. The Constitution is sooo last week so why bother with it. POTUS makes the laws so there is no need for Congress or SCOTUS.
OTOH, dumping the first 100 years would also eliminate slavery so there’s no need for reparations.
Well, duh, people came here for free Obama phones and the good cell service.

And that story recently about Muslims discovering America could go down the tubes with the omission of first 100 years!
