That’s right, MI and OH are one of the few (if not the only) college rivalries that are rooted from actual war and shots being fired.
Andrew Jackson thought he was screwing us in his settlement of the Toledo strip dispute but the upper peninsula proved to be exceedingly valuable many times over.
He gave the Toledo strip to Ohio in return for Ohio delivering the vote for democrats in the presidential election (Michigan was Whig territory) Ohio delivered for dems but lost the white house anyway.
