What to Make of Trump Fans’ Remarkable Cognitive Dissonance?
National Review Online ^ | August 26,2015 | GEORGE WILL

Every sulfurous belch from the molten interior of the volcanic Trump phenomenon injures the chances of a Republican presidency. After Donald Trump finishes plastering a snarling face on conservatism, any Republican nominee will face a dauntingly steep climb to reach even the paltry numbers that doomed Mitt Romney.

It is perhaps quixotic to try to distract Trump’s supporters with facts, which their leader, who is no stickler for dignity, considers beneath him. Still, consider these:

The white percentage of the electorate has been shrinking for decades and will be about two points smaller in 2016 than in 2012. In 2008, Barack Obama became the first president

Having someone march into D.C., kick the establishment’s a*s and bring them to heel is far more important than ideological orthodoxy at this point. At least in most peoples’ minds.

George Will is a paid propagandist for The Cheap Labor Express.
His job is to convince Americans that we must abandon the rule of law and surrender the country to fraudulently documented foreigners.

His employers are terrified that we might elect someone who will shut them down.

Thus saith the token conservative for the Washington Post and New York Times.

Stick to baseball, Georgie, at least you know something about the subject.

I love it. The powers that be all have their panties in a wad. Someone has finally unleashed the Silent Majority and it scares the hades out of them.

GOP base voters aren’t evaluating him for how well he fits as the next cog in the system.

We’re looking for a wrench to foul up the machinery.

For that purpose, what does it matter how well the wrench functions as a wrench?

The base no longer considers the establishment the lessor of two evils, and that should be cause to panic at GOP central.

Didn’t he say the same thing over and over, everyday?

Repeat this with enough frequency, and you might get the same “what’s the frequency, Kenneth” result.

“The white percentage of the electorate has been shrinking for decades and will be about two points smaller in 2016 than in 2012.”

Yet it is still by far the largest and most critical segment. If the nominee were to increase their share of the white vote by 2-3% over Romney, s/he will win. Keep in mind that without Obama on the ballot, the nominee will without question increase the share of the black vote, whose segment will shrink.

RINO George “Walker” Will uses BIG WORDS to herald
how smart he is, BUT attacks Mr. Trump for questioning
Obola’s undocumented status, with RINO Will
calling Mr. Trump a “birther”, as the faux-journalist
conveniently ignores that Obola has a stolen SS#.

Every sulfurous belch from the molten interior of the volcanic Trump phenomenon injures the chances of a Republican presidency.

Purple prose is the wrong tool to use to deal with this phenomenon. Maybe a lot of Trump supporters aren't invested in a "Republican" presidency.

Some hint of true contrition for past transgressions might be a better tack.

I don’t think Trump has said he is a conservative. I don’t think George Will is a conservative, either. Trump’s biggest appeal is his ability to make liberals’ heads explode. For now, that’s enough.
