No surprise in those who signed the pledge. Perhaps a little surprise in those who refused.

I’ll play. Signed by Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal and Rick Santorum.

Refusing to sign, Walker, Kasich and Pataki.

Did I win?

I’m actually surprised at the Huckster refusing. Linda’s refusal is no surprise at all. Don’t know enough about Walker on this issue to say one way or the other.

What is this - a little boy’s club - sign this pledge, sign that pledge. It reminds me of when we were kids and we would prick our fingers and swear to be blood brothers and sisters. Just signing a pledge means nothing - if they can’t get the votes in Congress. I think that is why some refused to sign this pledge.

Of course, we can get a Constitutional Amendment ratified, and some joker will go to the Supreme Court and get them to regard the terms “man” and “woman” as utterly subjective.

Frankly, this nonsense started in the seventies or earlier when some states recognized those who underwent surgery as being “reassigned” and therefore eligible to marry someone with the same chromosomes.

When words don’t mean anything, the Constitution is powerless.

I thought Cruz said it was a states’ rights issue?

Not a big fan of these assorted pledges various groups try to have presidential candidates sign, even when I agree with them. Prefer to hear the stump speeches and more detailed stances on issues from candidates who aren’t being pressured by various interest groups.

This pledge to support a Constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage is meaningless posturing. There is no way, even if every Republican voted for the amendment, that it would receive the tneeded wo-thirds majority in both houses of Congress. Even if this were to happen by some miracle, you would need three fourths of the state legislatures to ratify it. That means 38 states. Of the 11 Northeastern states, only Pennsylvania would possibly pass it. Of the five West Coast states, only Alaska would ratify. Even not counting Minnesota or other liberal states in flyover country, there are 14 states that will not ratify.

One reason Trump is doing so well in the polls is that he does not engage in meaningless posturing in supporting impractical solutions.

Irrelevant, since it won’t pass.

Only way we get rid of it is to change the composition of the court so they overturn the previous decision.

Amending the constitution is the WRONG APPROACH !

The constitution is an organizational document not a programmatic one.

The only time it was used as programatic was Prohibition...and it was an abysmal failure. Just as this anti-gay marriage business is.

The place for this is in the legislature to enact LAWS. The SCOTUS has no place in ruling on the entitlement of such things as marriage to homosexuals. The legislature of any state can eneact legislation regarding who is married and who is not and under what circumstances that takes place.

This is not an issue about freedom but is being used as a battering ram AGAINST freedom. They dipshit Kennedy fell for it like the dope he is.

Mike Huckabee is for it whether he would sign the pledge or not. I am not even worried about him. Go see his website. Ben Carson is questionable, though I am glad he seems to now support it. He has supported civil unions in the past, which is simply gay marriage by another name. He also had a bad statement a few weeks ago. So I do not know what to think. I would be very happy to learn he changed his mind.

Walker has been wishy-washy from the beginning. Jindal and Santorum are great candidates and I hope the increase their support.

It’s ridiculous to sign any pledge. No matter how much you are for or against the topic, the msm will spin it back on you. Never, ever get pulled into that little game.
